I just got my CDL Permit. I have the opportunity to go to the driver training program offered by McLane Trucking. Is McLane a good starter company? I know they work you to death, but that's ok with me. Anybody have any experience working at McLane? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Never worked for McLane, but I did do foodservice. The only people that can be worked to death at foodservice are people that never done any sort of manual labor. It's WORK, but IMHO, it's not hard work. If they're paying $1200/week or something like that, take the job.

    Luck in battle.

Location? Which McLane? There’s McLane grocery (teams) the flagship of the company. McLane Foodservice(solos) McLane formerly know as MBM( liftgates teams solos).

As in a great starter company. Yes if you don’t mind physical work. Want to be home. You’ll make more money then any starter mega carrier and not be gone for a month at a time. Starting pay isnt the greatest. But topping out is bank. McLane grocery guys make 70k-100k+. I’m with McLane Foodservice and after this Friday’s check I’ll be at 25k for the year. But I’m also topped out so take that into consideration. But as in Foodservice companies I don’t touch boxes twice only a few here there. Loads are organized to an extent vs Sysco Us Foods.

I'll be out of the Longmont, Colorado location. Not sure which position as of now. I'm guessing there's overtime to take in to consideration too, correct?

My buddy works there. They are very short handed so plenty of work. You can work as much as you want. He finds himself off on the weekends. Very good money. I just don’t know how they work it with being a trainee. They run teams. Deliver to 7-11 and gas stations.

I wonder if I get to pick what position I want, or if they pick one for me?

Well I mean as far as teams and what not. Don't they have long haul positions as well? I need to research better lol.

Yes they have long routes. But everything is teams whoever needs help. But you can get picked up by a senior guy and you’ll be on his schedule. You can go to my side Foodservice and do solo if you don’t want to do team. They are probably trying to ship you to grocery cause they need the most people.
