I have fifth wheel slop when I stop and go. It gets worse with a old worn king pin. will a new retainer ring and cushion ring with new locking jaw solve the problem?

Another thing the plate does not move up and down very easy, I can't even do it with my own weight 220 lbs. Is it a simple fix like steam clean it and relube it or would it need to come apart and replace bushing if that's how it works? Or are some fifth wheels like that? its a 2007 Pete 387 with Jost fifth wheel.

Well new pins and bushings aren't expensive. Neiborhood of $50 iirc. I changed mine out about 2 yrs ago and they're getting stiff again. You need to be pretty good with a sledgehammer to get the old ones out though. My jost had a bit of slop from day one with worn kingpins.

Re-bush it, if it can't pivot freely not only will it beat you to death, but if left unattended long enough you will eventually crack frame cross members, and possibly the frame rails themselves. There is an adjustment bolt on the passenger side of the plate, loosen the lock-nut and turn bolt to tighten, Doesn't take much, 1/4-1/2 turn is it or it wont lock on a new pin. Also do not be afraid of the grease gun here, the more drop and hooking you do the more grease you will need.
