JCC runs a pretty good program, and it's not terribly expensive compared to other programs. You'll see their trucks driving through Smithfield, Selma, Clayton, Garner, and Raleigh quite a bit. It's good that you're looking at going into some sort of freight hauling.. the local jobs in that area leave a bit to be desired. If you ever do decide that you want to go local, Puryear tends to look pretty tempting... I'd recommend you avoid them like a case of AIDS.

Johnston Community College Driving School actually came out of N.C. State Unv. years ago. It is well respected in the trucking industry. I remember that most of the trucking companies that were based in N.C. got their drivers out of the N.C. State school. Companies that are long gone, McLean, Branch, Thruston, Carolina, Central, Pilot and many, many more looked to N.C.State for drivers. Probably most of you young men have never heard of these companies.
ashltn and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Branch is the only one that didn't ring a bell. Any one in that area if the country , I would suggest look into them Johnson county community college's truck driving school course.

I took the course back in 2009. Not the refresher but the course to receive your CDL. In my opinion Johnston Community College has the best training program in the area. You will receive everything needed to reenter the driving force. The director is paul jump and is very knowledgeable and takes a great interest in the students. The lead instructor is henry. He is a character in is own. but he knows his material. you will really enjoy the class I hope and good luck.

Are you considering local companies or OTR. In rocky mount there is MBM, in goldsboro there is pate dawson, also in goldsboro there is Goldsboro Iron & Metals Recycling. I also attended JCC and graduated back in 2009.

Just to update all of you...I went to the beginning of the Refresher Course at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC this morning. Four students had signed-up. But I was the only one, who showed-up! One student had gotten a job and the other two didn't even call-in to let the staff know they were not coming. So, the class was cancelled! Such a shame because I am anxious to get this course under my belt so I can complete the requirements of the companies, where I have applied. I have called the recruiters at those companies and updated them on what happened. So as it now stands, I am the first...and so far...the only person signed-up for the next Refresher Course, which begins on April 8th. I hope others will sign-up! They need at least two students, so they can hold the class. If there are other folks in North Carolina searching for a refresher course, please consider Johnston Community College. Contact Paul Jump at 919-464-2331. The cost is VERY REASONABLE since it is through a NC community college verses a private school, which will charge you triple the cost you would pay at Johnston Community College! Hope to see some of you there on April 8th!

That stinks! Thought they would have more then 4 people signed up.

Might want to check into Caldwell Community College in Hudson, they may have a more realistic option for a refresher course. Of course that may be a bit too far to drive for you though.
