I'm glad I registered with this site as I can make my own opinion of a company before I apply to them. I am a refrigerated broker who is married to a driver with over 20 years experience himself, who has been through the mill and back several times with his career. We've owned 4 trucks in the past and presently we are free from all that crap. At least right now, but what else does a man do if that is all he was trained to do? I have enrolled in a supply chain management program and take classes online. I have one year to go, and hubby is looking at more trucks. I'm telling you, he complains about the industry but still brings truckpapers home as I'm trying to get him off the road! Anyway, my point is that no one company is alike. Some are more driver friendly than others and yes drivers need to stand up for themselves as they are the ones who has to pay the fines and deal with the points on their license. Just the other day, hubby had to have the shipper cut the load a bit as it was way over 46,000 lbs shipper said he can't cut it, driver said he can't haul it...it was cut in the end and the chicken house accepted it. The laws are for those who know them, and i'm telling you not all dispatchers know or care to know the laws. Try to find a company who's dispatchers don't work on bonuses that will help. Good luck

I am a driver for this company, I am also leaving after over a year with them, this is also my second time with them. The problem with this company is thay are getting too big too fast. In the last 10mnths Veriha has bought out two other companys and I have seen a big change (not for the good). This was a great company to work for back in the day, but now it's time to move on. Most of the problems outlined in the letter from mahnoomin ikwe could be true but I found no page in the drivers handbook about sleeping at the shipper or recvr when under a load.As for running over your log book I have never been forced to run over my hours for the day and if your DM is asking you to do so a quick call to Jeff ( the safety director) will put a stop to that. As for the vice pres of the company, (Leigh ) this is a very highly intelligent persion but, as allways the higher up the co ladder you go the less thay know about the real world issues drivers face every day, nor do thay care. This seems to be the case here and a big factor for my departure. The best I can tell you is to ask yourself some questions and be honest to yourself and what you are looking for in a company. If you can be happy with a truck going 65mph, avg of 2200mi to 2600mi a week for 48 state drivers, most freight going out east, with some midwest and west coast, and returning right back to WI, or Chicago area most times. Then JVT is for you. I must warn you John Veriha is undergoing some big changes (not all good or in your favor ) so you might want to wait and see how it all shakes out ( I here tell they are going to electronic logging just like Werner ).

This company has gone to 100% paperless log book for all new and soon to be old drivers..This does effect how many miles you get no matter what the co.tells you..They keep triing to tell the drivers that paperless gets more miles in all..There is now way that this is possible and any smart person knows that..Most of the old drivers have stated that when they are forced to go paperless there going elsewere..They have also changed there insurance rates..The one plain is only $85 a week but has a $5000 deductable per person..The other plain is $150 per week with a little smaller deductable..I still like working for this company but I am looking at other companys at this time to make a move after the first of the year..Be very careful before you start a job with this company and ask a lot of there drivers also before you do..

"they have no business being in here using this as a way to badger, threaten and fire anyone for freedom of speach"

I really bugs me when people don't understand that freedom of speech is your right to speak out against the government, You are not being deprived your freedom of speech if someone wants to sue you for something you say in a public forum!
Now, as for your fiance, With 24 years of exp, he needs to get a backbone and tell these dispatchers what he can and cannot do, I have the same problems with CHIZEK TRANSPORT, They will cheat the driver out of miles, Fine the Driver for things they did not do and threaten to penalize a driver for not coming to the yard to fuel even though they will not pay the driver the extra mile to do so.
Drivers, we need to be smarter then these companies, there are ways to retaliate.
In Wisconsin it is called the DWD (Dept of Workforce Development).
I have had to take my company to the DWD and in each case had a judgment in my favor, once for over $2,000.
It is not legal in Wisconsin for an employer to "Fine" or "Penalize" an employee for ANY form of wrong doing whether or not the employee did do it!
Just don't sign anything admitting fault and agreeing to pay!

Oh.... Do not work for Chizek... You have been warned.

Don't EVER work for John Veria Trucking..The Safety man is a Jerk and does no wrong no matter what.. Even though everyone there knows theres a problem they all Back him up.. But then again they back everyone up in the Office.. These people will run you Illegal and if u get into trouble they will say they never told u to.. And of course the Safety man will say its your mistake and u may be fired..This place use to be a great place to work but I'm guessing will be closed soon..

How can U run Illegal on Paperless logs..Well it's simple..I was in Hammond,In. and only had two hours to run.. I was told to run up to the Wi. State line and wait for another driver.. I told them I didn't have time since going through Chicago would be over the Two Hours.. I was told to go or Else..I've been out here a long time and can always find another job so I went..I know I shouldn't have but I was ticked off and went and It took me WAY over Two hours to get there.. After I got there my Log was fixed "By Them" and it showed I got there Legally..Whats funny is when ever someone in the Main office does anything to the Logs it shows who did it.. And what is funny is was the So Called Safety Man that did it..The Only time this company runs Legal is when it works for them..Other wish if you refuse a load due to not having hrs U will be Fired..I look forward to when this Company goes Under or DOT Burns them..
