Hey guys need some help here. I got an 03 379 with a 6nz cat. I rebuilt the motor a year ago and i didnt change the cam cause it looked fine. SoI just had to replace the camshaft and rockers including the injector rockers. Now the problem I have is the Jakes pop alot louder on these 8" straights and I seem to have a vibration only when the Jakes are on. Is it just cause everything is new and tight? Also here is a picture of why I had to replace the camshaft with a stock reman. Thanks for your info guys!

I don't have a lot of experience troubleshooting Caterpillar engine brakes but a Cummins can show the same behavior. A cracked slave piston adjusting screw or the lash setting excessive can cause this. Can you narrow it down to which engine brake position by using the dash switch?

Two things come to mind. Adjustment and something in one of the jake housings is wrong. You can get a (tune up) kit for the jake and you don't have to take them off to do it.

Yeah idk it's probably just the the overhead being new. I'm gonna rerun the rack probably next week and see. I had the jake packs rebuilt with all new springs ect.

I just want to add this. when you change the springs from that kit also pull out pistons and mark them. you may see scratches on pistons and inside of the housing. polish these surfaces slightly and put back pistons as marked.

Ya didn't clean your ears lately, huh? Jakes can get out of adjustment and they probably working right now for first time in a while. Be my bet.
