Hi all. I own a moving company and I am tired of dpfs and regens (drivers keep forgetting regens...$$)

I need to replace my 20' box trucks and I'm now looking for isuzu NPR HD gas 2016 (brand new) witch costs half the price of a Hino diesel.

I'm worried about the pay load on a gas truck but on the other hand I think residential moving is light...

What do you think about that?

There may be some CNG options out there that would work for a local operation.

    I've had 2 14' NPR Gas trucks.

The first one had a chevy 5.7 in it, blew a wrist pin at 100K miles, put a rebuild in for $5K. Great truck otherwise. It was a 2000.

Now I have a 2014 NPR gas with the 6.0 LS engine. 30K miles and no issues at all. It has too much power. Without a load it can be a little squirly here and there. It's fuel mileage isn't as good as my 2007 diesel, but it's pretty good otherwise. The 20' you'd need the HD version. The axle-weights are published on their website so you can figure that out yourself as I'm sure you've got weight tickets for your current trucks. I think the NPR HD with a 20' would be overweight if you really cubed it out. On local in-town however...

Anyway I'd recommend the gas isuzus personally. Cheap to run, any garage can maintain it. The new LS engines are good mills, only problem I've heard is some warping exhaust manifolds but other than they they're supposedly bulletproof, for a gas V8 anyway. When we bought ours to save a buck we just moved our old box over and was out the door for around $30K with tradein of the old chassis. My drivers love it. Let me know if you have any other specific questions, I also own a moving company. Where are you located?

Hey thanks for the long reply. very informative. I,m in Montreal Canada. I plan on switching my old box to the new isuzu too. I can't do that with a diesel as they are already too heavy. Do you know how much weigh a 20' box ? here in canada we have the thaw period and we have to be extra cautiious of the weight of the loads. my box on an isuzu hd gas would give me a 6000lbs pay laod. just wondering if that is enough...

my NPR (NOT HD) scaled without a load but with blankets, fuel, dollies, 2 guys as follows:
    steer: 3800
    drive 4760
    gross: 8560

the truck is good for 12,000 I think.

    according to :http://isuzucv.com/en/nseries/gas_trucks
the body/payload is 6500 on a 12,000 lb GVW. so the tare without box is 5500 so my 14' box plus gear, driver, etc is 3000lbs. My guess 2000lbs box, 1000lbs gear, driver, whatever. Ours is a supreme with a rollup door with a step bumper, alum outside, plywood inside. There are lighter boxes out there, there are heavier boxes out there.

I've had that same truck overloaded if we pack super tight, disassemble all the ikea stuff, etc.

Persnally, I'd go for it. Isuzu themselves say that less than 20K miles/year you're better with gas if they have one at your weight rating. The 20' box is borderline on the HD model, definitely too much for the plain NPR.

These guys spec mostly the NQR or NRR on boxes that long:
