If you are a company driver it will work fine. My wife and I have used it several times. It will ask you job specific questions.
walstib Thanks this. -
I've used it since 2007
no audit yet. in 07 i was company for 5 months and lp for 6.
in 08, i was lp for two companies.
in, 09 i worked half the year , two trucks, same company(lp)
in 10, i worked half the year- two companies, one lp, the latter half my own purchased truck
in all cases, Turbo tax had the 'guts' to evaluate and properly account for all deductions, expenses...etc.
I feel like going on a crusade against ATBS in a new thread vs Turbotax.
The numbers are easy to figure
ATBS $16/week = $852 for the year.
or $100 for turbotax
It's a no-brainer.
I may even postmy step by step TT return for 2011 so people can see how easy it is.Last edited: Jan 8, 2012

Thanks ya'll!!!

Yeah turbo tax is great for company drivers. It will do your standard daily meal deduction as you go through the steps filling it out. My credit union offers free turbo tax to all of it's members so I never had to pay anyone to get my taxes done. Those were the good ol days when taxes were easy lol.

Last year it was messed up. I don't know if they fixed it.
They have a box asking you if you are a transportation employee to adjust to the 80% per diem rate. But it still gave everyone the 50% rate regardless.
Just watch out for it. You can manually fix it on the form. -
When using turbo tax which one do you use, free , deluxe, priemer, home and business or business. I would like to do my own taxes this year and am confused on the process. Can someone advise me? Thanks.

I used the free one on the IRS link. I'm sure the other versions are better.
If you are a company driver, the free one is suitable.
If I was an OO I would invest in the home and business one. It's even tax deductible.KS_Caveman Thanks this. -
Would this be a good program to use for an owner who does local stuff and has made a truck purchase? I don't much care for my current tax guy and would love to take a stab at it with a user friendly program.

They walk you through it step by step. Very user friendly.
Business owners, you just have to go the long form route and fill out a few more forms. It's not outside the scope of average intelligence. One can teach themself everything there is to know. Each step they ask questions, have a help option to explain everything and catch guards so you don't miss things.
When you do your own, it gives you a better perspective how to keep good records. Learning Microsoft Excel is a good tool for making these alot easier also. Luckily I had a girlfriend that taught me how to use it.You can even go on YouTube and people will teach you how to use many software applications. I learned alot of Photoshop that way.
One hint, once you do your own taxes, don't tell anybody. All your friends and family will be asking you to do theirs.
Roadmedic on here is good with truckers taxes. He gladly helps anyone with questions.
