I had a nephew who was born with one of the many disabilities (don't remember the name) children are sometimes born with, his parents were told that he would always be bed ridden and have a very short life, but he proved them partially wrong as he addapted to the wheelchair. Ronny was a very sweet and smart child, and maybe it was because I drove a truck or maybe because Red Sovine could tell a story so well, regardless it was one song he could relate to and loved listening to TEDDY BEAR. Somewhere back in the eighties (I think) a couple of our teams were coming out of Nashville heading east one night and passed this tour bus and struck up a conversation with the driver and found out it was Red's bus, we told them we were going to stop at Pams truck stop at the 238 and invited them to join us. We all gathered around the big table and talked like drivers use to do, and Red told us as how he started out years ago hauling Stroughs beer (I think) running from W. Virginia to Detroit and back, he told us it didn't take long to figure there was a better way to earn a living, he was a great story teller and a very personable fellow. I told Red about Ronny and how much he loved his song, he got one of his 8"x10"s and signed it "To Ronny "Teddy Bear" from Red Sovine". When Ronny died that picture was still in his bedroom. Thanks for bringing this great memory back.
Hitman, NDBADLANDS, rockee and 2 others Thank this. -
The two songs that are the most truthful' "Whiteline Fever" by Merle Haggard and "Endless Black Ribbon" by Tiny Harris. Any driver with more than a couple years experiance can relate to both.

Red Sovine is still alive and last I heard he was working with Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague on some trucking songs.

Woodrow Wilson (Red) Sovine died April 4th 1980, making us both wrong, must have been the late 70's when we met at Pams.
