Company mega carrier here and I plan on doing team driving for the next 3-6 months with another company driver who I’ve known since I’ve started and I’ve hung out with them a few times.
I run pretty strong as a solo driver, to me teams just seem like a trick to get two drivers in the same truck and the company save money. Will the pay as a company driver really make a difference as a team driver?
Is teams worth it as a company driver?

I don't understand what you are asking. Is your company forcing you to team?

You are paid all milage the truck runs.
You're paid for all milage you drive and all millage your teammate drives.
For example, you're in the sleeper and your teammate is driving; you're sleeping and getting paid for those miles also.
So, yeah, you can make more money running teams if you get long coast-to-coast runs.nextgentrucker and austinmike Thank this. -

Ask what the freight lanes are and make sure you're not stuck running East of I-35.77fib77 Thanks this. -

Team driving is no picnic. Some people can make it work.

LTL companies like Old Dominion seem to pay their teams well. But I have not seen any advertisements for mega companies like Prime Inc or Swift that come close to paying what team drivers should make. If the company is still paying you solo rates, or just a few CPM more, then I don't believe that it is worth it. As a team, you are bringing significant value to your company. The only thing you can expect is a higher level of risk and sacrifice, so I would expect to be compensated accordingly. Can you really be confident that your co-driver can get enough rest while they're bouncing around in the sleeper through New Mexico and Arizona on I-40, or any other bad roads around the country? You are a slave to that truck, even on your 10 hour break.

I spent about a month sharing a truck with my trainer five years ago, and I spent two weeks riding with a trainee in my truck last year.
Never again, and there’s no way I’d do team driving. I like my time, space, and privacy too much!
