I have Verizon, T-Mobile would be around half the cost for a new phone. Is T-Mobile ok for OTR?

I switched carriers to save some bucks. Went to Sprint and the service area wasn't quite as good, but it was available wherever there was decent population around.
Then T-Mobile bought out Sprint. When I switched out my phones sim card from Sprint to T-Mobile, the service area improved probably 30%.
Fast forward to now and there really isn't many areas without coverage. Only when I am well away from any population center is there little to no coverage.Blagoje, drvrtech77 and 77fib77 Thank this. -
I've had tmobile for years and it keeps getting better and better. I get great coverage and 5g is plenty for streaming.

I personally like AT&T. Only a few places I get bad signal. And that’s usually during the day. Like kingman az or raphine va. But those are at pfj. I was thinking maybe a mobile hotspot will solve that?

Verizon has gotten greedy and too expensive. The other carriers have caught up to them and are offering close to half the price of Verizon so I am about to switch myself.

I had to make an ER visit over the weekend. Nothing serious. I was visiting with a friend when I went into a Tonic Clonic seizure that turned into Status Epilepticus, the ER physician gave me a shot of Versed and about 3 hours later this friend took me home. I am telling this story because he was in the room with me, and he was talking to my daughter on his phone. He has an iPhone and uses 2 carriers. One is AT&T and the other is T-Mobile. He told me almost anywhere he goes he will get at least one bar with one of the carriers. If I were still trucking I suspect I would also be using a dual line phone. Keri uses one too. Several months ago I looked into this. Right now I am using Visible for my phone, this company is owned by Verizon and costs $25 a month. Unlimited talk and text. The data is unlimited but throttled a bit. My iPhone is not 5G so I get LTE, I can still watch YouTube videos on my phone and there is no buffering. I can get AT&T prepaid for $30 a month with 10Gig data. If you have a 5G phone that is network unlocked and will work on any carrier, Visible also has a $45 plan that has unlimited 5G service.
My point is not to push a company, just to tell everybody to spend some time doing some research. It is possible to tailor a plan to your needs that will work great for you and not break the bank.
The largest problem for most is getting the correct device. My iPhone is an iPhone 11 A2111, It was bought unlocked. With this phone, I can use almost any carrier in the US.4wayflashers Thanks this. -
I had TMobile...Never again. Someone paid my bill. TMobile people in probably India, were belligerent. Not only had an attitude toward telling me exactly what happened. They cut off my method of payment. So I cut TMobile off.
Honestly, when I switched to ATT, coverage got better. I used to go to a drywall factory in Oklahoma. I'd have to send in paperwork to the company. TMobile coverage was a little dribble. Barely worked. ATT had much better coverage there. Ran into same elsewhere. Nashville, Arkansas. Another drywall plant. Other places. TMobile may have gotten better now? I won't go back. I'm happy with ATT. They watch and edit their bills. Seems they know that Verizon has turned into a ravenous wolf. They get customers by being earnest in their billing.
Now Verizon. I had been with them since Southern Bell created Verizon. I won't rant on and on. They completely screwed me. I wasn't going to pay for a 'free' phone that didn't work. They wouldn't give me another that did work. I left. They reported on my credit report. Nobody at Verizon would listen. Was forced to pay when I got a home loan. Since then.... Had one of those guys at a Verizon booth at TA try to sell me. Offered me $287 to come back because I had an iPhone 14 Max Pro. I told him I'd think about it if Verizon would give me only $82 and an apology on my credit report.
Screw Verizon. I'm very happy with ATT.
.
I would suggest buying unlocked only device. Don't let anyone get their claws into you. I ran into bad trouble with Apple and their apple care. That is a joke. ATT is very nice and understands. I now have two Samsung Phones, one for backup. Two apple iPads. One was for backup before I ran into the complete chaos with apple care. One Samsung Pad. My apple laptop with me in truck. I have with ATT one phone, separate numbers for two pads and a tracphone chip with one year service for backup. May go talk to ATT about a separate number chip for a year service. It's just backup in case I lose my chip along with phone for main service.
The samsung pad works alot better paired with my samsung phone than the iPad paired did with iPhone. For some reason? Samsung pad is as good or better than iPad.
I'm very happy with my Samsung phone.
.
Don't depend on anybody. I depended on Apple and their apple care. What a joke. Have you a phone in 24 hours? No way in hell. I was stranded with no phone. Don't want to rant on. Make sure you have a backup and backup service.
.
I would suggest getting a Pad with it's own phone number. Texting is alot easier on it than a smartphone. Other web stuff alot nicer. It's bigger.Last edited: Jun 17, 2024
