I’ve heard through the grapevine that Saia Truckload is a re-creation of Yellow Freight. I know both companies were originally formed many years ago, but some are saying that the same company that owned Yellow also owns Saia. Is it mere coincidence that Saia has been expanding rapidly, especially in the northeast, at almost exactly the same time that Yellow collapsed?
Word has it that the main intent of the restructure was to boot the union out of company operations, and the closing of unionized Yellow, along with the expansion of non union Saia was the best way to do so.
Anybody have any details?
Is Saia Really A Reincarnation Of Yellow Freight?

This is one of the most bizarre conspiracy theories I’ve ever heard of that people keep inexplicably believing.
Saia has been an independent, publicly traded company since 2002. Not only would some kind of secret merger be impossible to hide since bother companies are publicly traded, it would also surely break some laws to attempt to hide that critical information from the public.Rugerfan, road_runner, blairandgretchen and 4 others Thank this. -
Saia was a private company started by Louis Saia.

Saia upper people know how to make money and turn a profit. They don’t mismanage money. So I doubt it.

I believe at one point in the 80’s SAIA was sold to Preston, which was then part of some later merger into a Yellow division. SAIA and Jevic spun off around 2002 and Jevic was dissolved around 2006 I think.

Well, depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go on the subject of ‘who owns who’.
Reports of how much of the stock market is controlled by ‘investment houses’, stocks traded by computers, throw into that mix, Vanguard and BlackRock, it’s not really a stretch to say the ‘same’ people that owned Yellow own Saia, as well as any other company that is ‘publicly traded’.Gearjammin' Penguin and Cardfan89 Thank this.
