Newer driver here. Around 4 months solo, thinking about making a move at six months or sooner. I choose Nevada for tax and cost of living reasons.
My mega is actually pretty decent, but I am not under contract and currently fighting to avoid pacific northwest and Cali loads on a regular basis. Paper and recycling outfits are evil, and the 55 speed limit and lack of truck stops in most of Cali (not to mention greater Seattle and Portland) is making me doubt everything.
The problem with Reno is, it's too close to California, so I wonder if there's a small to mid-sized operation that is heavy on Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Idaho routes for the most part? Anything east of the Mississippi, reefer, or Cali heavy is out of the question.
Because after all, I am in demand and there's a driver shortageThanks for any advice, I figure six months xperience is the new year, or so I hope. Work life balance and driving area > $$$ for me..
Is Reno a good driver's market?

@rpad139 - any suggestions on this?
Reno's too cold for me in the winter! -
All the megas could keep you out of CA, but that would be like work. I mean really, they would actually have to pay attention to where they were sending an INDIVIDUAL driver.
CK73 Thanks this. -

No idea, good luck finding a way around california. There are some big dc, shippers, in the reno/sparks area. Amazon, chewy, mars petcare, walmart dc, petsmart.

You can plead with Danny Herman Trucking for a job. They don't hire in Las Vegas normally, but might talk them in to it if you say you don't want hometime very often. Dry van.
Danny Herman Trucking freight lanes are usually below I-40 from the east coast to southern California. They have two facilities in Southern CA and one is right on the Mexican border and the other isn't too far from it: maybe Fontana.. No Northern California or Pacific Northwest or Northeast.
Lots of I-40, I-20, I-10, I-8. -
Correct if im wrong someone, but reno has more inbound freight than outbound. I used to get stuck out there all the time.
