I here Prime Inc. is a bad company? Yeah i know the way they do their lease is messed up but I am going to go company. I am going to their student CDL program. They pay for everything. Yes they do advance you 200 a week and yes you do have to pay $25 back on each 200. But thats fine. But what makes them so bad? They are better than England, swift, and FFE from what i have seen. They pay 600 a week for training and 37 cents a mile once you go solo.. so isn't that like one of the best starter companies? i am just curious what other have to say and what experiences they have.
Is prime inc. Really that bad?

If going to a training school/ College is out of the option for you to get your cdl then Prime is one of the better companies to start out at. Get 2 years in and then go somewhere better unless you end up liking them and stick around if you want. There is no perfect company, but a lot of the complaints about most of the "bad" companies come from people that are too lazy to do the work the proper way and fail to make a profit for said "bad" company.
Captbob412 Thanks this. -
Regardless of how blind and hard up I was; paying for a truck that they force you to go 60 mph in would absolutely drive me out of my mind. Prime trucks are nothing but a rolling road block. Unsafe in my book. As I am driving down the road, and I see a Prime truck ahead of me, I cringe, and prepare myself to 'hopefully' pass them, or be forced to run behind them at the miserable speed that some other company feels I should go.
No; I am not a "Cowboy" or "Rebel" or "Billy Big Rigger"---I don't have to be zip-zap'n around at high speeds (20 years without a speeding ticket can tell you that)....but 60 is a freaking joke.
Yes; I know you said "company driver"....but they will starve you for miles in an effort to get you to Lease a truck. You will have an option: Live with the crap miles, or Lease. -
They have nice equipment. . If (like the above poster states) they start a solo at 42 cents a mile (And that doesn't include a quarterly fuel/safety/miles driven bonus or per diem)..
I have seen days that I would like to have one of those little trucks (tight spaces)..
I'd try to get my CDL without going through there school. . Other than that and staying away from there lease. . Probably not a bad place to start.
Or That wasn't just kool aid I drank. . Good luck -
A lot of it depends on your relationship with your dispatcher and if you do everything that you are suppose to do. Prime company drivers do make 38-42cpm to start. You get more based on the equipment you choose to run(i.e. lightweights make more). Personally I can't stand up in a lightweight and I will never drive one. If you decide to do a lease just remember you are not an O/O, but just a glorified company driver. What a lot of people fail to mention is that when you are a lease operator you end up with less of a tax liability each quarter due to the fact that you are making all those truck payments and paying for fuel.

So basically, Prime is not as bad as some say and better than most "training companies"! Glad to hear it since I start with them on the 28th of Feb.

It's a job like anything else. Sure there will be things you may not like about them.
Im a company driver and I'm happy with prime. I challenge anyone to find another trucking company that bests prime in the way of Christmas parties or free breakfast at Friday morning meetings. -
I just wish they would speed your trucks back up.
