I just got word today from my people that PMTG is closing their doors in a couple of days.
I don't know what they were doing wrong but I know that they were having a hard time keeping drivers. They under bid us on some Ohio Freight and then they weren't able to keep up with it. I know they load a lot of Subarus out of Dundalk.

I know one thing. Sooner or later the car hauling business is going to have to reinvent itself because drivers are just coming and going all the time because nobody wants to pay anything and the manufacturer's keep on giving the jobs to whoever bids the lowest.

    Thanks to deregulation.

I am of the opinion that the reinvention has already occurred. I see it this way, we are going through what freight did ten or fifteen years ago with online brokers, mass consolidations and high driver churn.

Equipment is becoming easier to load every day with quick loaders and strap trucks, computers plan your stops and in some cases even how to load the truck, self driving cars will pull themselves from the que and line up in a loading bay within 5 years. In years past you had to know someone to get a shot at a seat with a good company, or in the case of fleet owners to get in the pool of carriers. Today all you need is an internet connection, operating authority and a pulse. Have two out of three that is ok they will work around it!

The industry has changed, so it is us career drivers, small carriers and other old timers that will have to find our own niche or adapt and overcome the new ways just to survive. Sadly I am not going to be a driver or owner much longer, my last truck is up for sale and I am concentrating on supporting trucking companies with my compliance consulting and safety training company. 25 years was enough, it was a great run and I wouldn't trade it for anything but it is time to adapt and overcome. I chose to evolve into an educator and support agent.

I totally agree. It is following the path of freight. It is a race to the bottom sadly.

I had an independent I was talking with this weekend tell me Moore was in trouble.
He didn’t reveal his source, but just chatting with him told me this guy has been hauling cars for a while.
Not saying he was right or wrong but he clearly wasn’t some clueless goof just spouting off.
Haven’t heard a thing about PMTG.

I drive for Moore transport and I've been here for almost 2 years and I don't know of any problems. I know that we keep on getting new freight handed to us. Everything is going strong as far as I know. They want to become debt free before they buy any more trucks which I think is a smart idea. All car haulers need to be making better money than they do now but you can't go anywhere and make any better money than you do at Moore transport

Too big, too fast, and cut too many rates is what he was saying.
I personally have no idea one way or another.

Moore and Virginia are on my short list if I ever get back into it...

I know for a fact that pmtg is struggling financially for last 8 years. Getting into serious debt doesn't happen overnight especially for a big company
