What's going on everyone,
I am finishing up my last year of my communist desk job that is 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. I have always worked a part time job after work, and now I am in a transition stage toward having a new full time job- trucking- I need help forming my plan.
I want to get into trucking as an owner operator by either leasing or running my own authority. I am already taking a CDL course.
I want to get a headstart on running loads and establish time with my authority, so I was thinking about buying a box truck. The insurance is $800 per month plus the cost of load boards. I was also going to get established with Amazon. I am not looking to get rich, but my goal is to find enough loads to pay for my insurance plus I'd like to make about $1,200 to $1,500 profit per month running loads. The only constraints are my full time job.
Is it possible to find loads after 4 PM and on weekends? I live in the DFW area and there are a lot of freight places around

Got it, thanks! The crazy part is they're going for equal or as much money as bobtails in auction. May as well wait until I can leave the commies and get a better truck to run full time. Def not planing on hotshotting. Sleeping in a pickup sucks.

What's your opinion of getting my own authority? I will probably have to get #### paying loads for a couple months till i build clientele, but once I do, I'll be set. I could always lease to a company
I was planning on registering one of my pickup trucks under my DOT number so i can have an active authority for several months, so I can get better loads from the beginning of driving a Class 8 -
Friday night if they need something moved asap it's pretty much name your price. Depends on what area your in. I don't ever have issues finding freight on the weekend.

I think that you’d be doing yourself a huge favor by spending at least a year as a company driver before committing yourself to becoming an owner operator. Think of it as an apprenticeship. Your odds of success are profoundly better if you know what you’re doing by having the experience of doing it for a while.

Don't take this as me being a jerk but you seem to have little clue how trucking works. Without knowing where you live nobody can tell you how difficult that might be. Box trucks have never been known as a way to make a living much less good money. They go for what they do because people buying them have their own freight, think parts stores and dry cleaning, they're delivering and if they're buying they need it now or maybe yesterday.
With the hours you're looking at what you're looking for is picking up the mail from various small town post offices, you'll be falling asleep at your desk job doing that. There's simply not much for hire night time and weekend freight for box trucks.NavigatorWife and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
