All those times I stayed at Louisiana truck stops or rest areas and nothing happened, I had no idea it was so dangerous.

It’s like anywhere else, there’s ####ty areas and there are ####ty areas that are dangerous. Sleeping in certain areas of Baton Rouge or New Orleans is just asking for it.

Your portence (or deportment) likely suggests you aren't an easy target and you aren't going to take any BS..... Predators prey on what looks like the 'weak'.... Lotta dudes driving around out there who look 'weak'. Fit to be preyed upon.

On that note, how many of these drivers that fall prey are of the rotund sort.

I've never had any problems in Louisiana and spent many nights there all along I-10.

I'd be interested to know this.
Portly men suck at running & they can't generally fight well. Even less so when they're surprised or ambushed.

Weight aside, it's a ####ty way to find the other side. Shouldn't any honest working fella be put out that way, even if he's tipping a quarter-ton.

At 5'10", 190.... I'm not trying to be hostile to anyone (I prefer to ignore / be ignored).... but iffn' it comes down to it, I'm putting my money on KT in the 1st Round. Be foolish not to.

Threads like this make me take a step back and ask myself if I'm just too laid back about some things. Maybe I've just run around in enough rough neighborhoods in my late teens and early 20's to where I'm desensitized to worrying about such things, or maybe I'm crazy enough to feel like I can't be F'ed with. I don't know.

Most people seem nervous around me if they don't know me and my situational awareness is always high so I don't really fret about stuff like that regardless of where I park. It could be a well lit truck stop, or an abandoned lot somewhere in the bad part of town and I'll sleep the same. I've done enough training in various disciplines and I have enough of a edge that whoever feels like trying me, had better hope to high heaven they are prepared for the outcome, because I can guarantee if it comes down to a "you or me" situation, it won't be me. I've got loved ones waiting for me at the house.

I've been to places willingly, where most wouldn't go even if you paid them, and every time I came out just fine. I never leave Texas, so it can be fists, weapons, whatever. I stay prepared, but I don't fret. I can tell you this, the way you carry yourself means a lot. If you've been around the block a time or two, you can spot the weak, or those that aren't up for a confrontation pretty quickly, and THAT is what predators look for. Pay attention, keep your head on a swivel and something solid within reach near your bunk, and avoid interaction with sketchy looking characters and you should be fine. Just don't walk around looking timid, or you will be one of the first to be targeted if "unsavory" folks are out and about.

    That, right there.

I'm pretty brazen, And I believe your statement because I embrace the will to survive, but I'll add just a bit to it, because we are all susceptible to defeat:

If it boils down to 'you or me', it won't be me. However, if it is me, then even you aren't getting out of it without getting beaten to hell.

I run down there every week it’s just as safe as anywhere.Just at Petro in Hammond. They had a dead body in abandoned car about 2 yrs ago Some handyman killed his bosses a very nice old couple and they caught the idiot. No ones been actually murdered there for at least 3 yrs. LOL They had 2 brothers running together parked next to each other one slept good all night the other let a hooker in and robbed her. She came back with some thugs they beat him with a claw hammer he died the next day. Both isolated incidents.I find a lot of good affordable small places w good food coffee and friendly locals.Id be more worried about Texas myself but perception is everything.TA in Slidell is safe and surrounded by all sorts of restaurants and stores very good area next Petro in Hammond not bad Small stop 1 exit east is safe . Going west Pilot Denham Springs safe but too small stay away unless you have time to lose. Then like earlier Cashs in Port Allen And Loves are good Then west on 10 The Tiger everybody loves that place. If you go West right before Lafayette Breaux Bridge exit very safe Cajun country I highly recommend The chicken on the bayou restaurant Right across from Landry’s High Dollar Seafood restaurant. Try the gator just like the state you’ll either love it or hate it. But don’t miss the chance to experience a truly unique place like Louisiana
