Ive been told a warning carries the same points as an actual ticket so get the citation instead so it can hopefully be changed to a non moving violation. Is this sound or just dumb....forgive my ignorance
Is a warning worse than a citation

I have always been told that a warning does not have any affect on your license unless you get caught doing that same thing again.
If its a warning for speeding, and you get caught speeding again within a year, or whatever time that warning indicates, then you get two tickets at once.
So, while a warning doesn't cost you anything when you get it , it is dangerous. You need to cool it for at least a year.A warning is better than a ticket.

It all depends on the state or local jurisdiction on what they do with the warning. Some hit the trash can, some get computerized. Then if you get pulled over again in that jurisdiction, they can see you had a warning and a citation will be issue. In a few places will the original warning turn into a citation along with a new citation.
Your best bet is to google the locality like, Ohio warning ticket or Dallas warning ticket and you might find the specifics.
Just keep your nose clean in that area. A couple tickets won't hurt you as far as your career goes. A third is when you need to start sweating.
A warning or ticket gets some drivers thinking and makes them drive better. It's not totally a bad thing!FloTheWaitress Thanks this. -
A warning adds points as far as the DOT is concerned if they combine it with an inspection. Dont know how regular law enforcement works but I would expect the worst.

Ok thats good to know. I got a message on the qualcomm saying a warning is.the.same as a ticket, csa points and all

If you're pulled over by a local, it won't affect your CSA score. Even if you're given a ticket. CSA only counts inspections. If you're pulled over by a CMV/DOT officer (or just a state officer that can do roadside inspections in the state), if they list "Speeding" as a violation on your inspection, it counts against you.
I got one in Ohio a few years ago. Just a verbal warning, but he put it on my Level 3 inspection as a violation. -
I've been told a warning with an inspection gets points assigned and is worse than a citation because it can't be appealed .

4 or 5 years ago I was pulled over on south I-5 in Washington for doing 64 in a 60. It was a slight downhill so I got a few xtra mph. the trooper pulled me over got up inside my truck berating me saying he does not mind pulling us truckers over all day long, and how unsafe it is for us to be speeding. He then went threw my log book and paperwork found nothing wrong then gave me anouther safty lecture and told me he was giving me a speed warning.
I asked several times if it was a ticket or just a warning and he said just a warning. Becouse if it was a ticket I would have argued back as my driving was plently safe, but since it was just a warning I accepted it and be on my way.
I did have to send a copy into my company for them to sign and send back, but it all ended there. There is no record of it on any of my driving reports. Granted this was before CSA. -
Ask the COP for a VERBAL warning next time....saves time/paperwork !
