I have a wiring issue, and want to know the risks of driving 2.5 hours with a headlight out tonight.

depends...the letter of the law would say yes it's an OOS violation....but , cops are human too.....thing is , are you willing to take the risk , or make a phone call and make dispatch aware of the trouble. What I would do is make dispatch aware , then have them make the call...if they say go , take off , if you feel safe with 1 headlamp working , if they say yes , and you dont feel safe with 1 headlamp working , tell them you're not moving the truck til the issue is resolved according to the D.O.T. reg's...the later would be the best choice....

One eye open is like having a big neon sign that says 'Hey, come over here and look at me'. Don't do it on purpose.

Why not get a piece off wire and run it from the working headlight to the broken one?Not forgetting to unhook all other wires from the broken headlight.

I was just in the TA shop reading a poster listing the difference between annual inspection requirements and OOS requirements. For annual inspections the requirements are more stringent. For headlights you can have one working headlight and not be put OOS, while an annual inspection requires all lights to be functioning.

Anyone can find a problem, people who find solutions are more successful. As demonstrated here by @daf105paccar.

If it's burned out, a ticket.

If it's literally out as in gone, no estas aqui, then probably OOS.
