    I'm a relatively new driver with almost one year experience, driving for a Surrey, BC based company. Recently on a delivery, my trailer hit the gate post of a chain link fence. The owner of the receiving company was there watching me. He called my company immediately and took many photos. A few pipes were bent and the damage doesn't seem too serious.

    My question is: As a company driver, am I responsible to pay for part or all the damages?

    Thank you very much for the help.

    Depends on the company and the damage. In most cases the insurance company will cover it. The only thing you really have to worry about is the fact that it sounds like a preventable accident. Alot of companies will crucify you over those.

    No I'd say your company will cover it. They might cover it and fire you but I don't believe you can be held personally responsible. IANAL.

    Depends on the damage and how it occurred.
    In our company;

    When backing into a dock, you jack knife the trailer and damage the air deflector on back of the cab you will pay for damages.

    If you are on a snow covered road trying to get to a rest stop because your dispatcher told you to call it a day and you jack knife the trailer you are not responsible for damages. However if you keep going and pass a few areas where you could have stopped and you did not any damages that occur you are responsible for.

    At my Surrey, BC based company, we are not responsible for any damages.

    Hint as to whom you work for? lol

    Yeah, I have to pay for half of the damage. So I decide to change company in the end. It doesn't pay to be a long haul truck driver, it's just too much liability with too little pay. I got 40 cents per mile but it ends up to only 13 to 15 dollars per hour with all the unpaid work. I can find better paid job in any industry except walmart and macdonald and be home every day.

    Hi, MagnaV30

    Would you mind letting me know which company you're working for that pays so well. And how you find such companies? Looking through jobbank ads and craigslist, I saw most companies pay suck the same.
