There are between 4,000 to 5,000 2008-09 CAT engines sitting in a warehouse that belong to Peterbilt and Kenworth that are awaiting an order( US and Canadian orders) for their respective chassis. The engines are currently getting all Cat updates to the CRS (Cat Regeneration System) so you can buy with confidence!
Check with your Pete or Kenworth dealer for specific HP ratings, arraingements etc.Baack and The Challenger Thank this. -
Who cares? They're junk anyway!

Point of claification...Cat USED TO make a good motor! The first one I owned was a 1693T/A and Then a couple of 3406's and a 3408! I bought truck with a C15 in it a few years ago and after the trouble that I had with that motor and with Caterpillar I'll NEVER buy one again!
The ACERT motors are cetifiable junk and deliver poor fuel mileage and incredibly expensive repairs for a motor with mediocre performance. (at best)
Any Cat motor after the 3406 is junk in my opinion...If they are getting out of the truck market, I say "good riddance"! -
what a tool, you have a right to an opinion and I have the right to point out how stupid it is.PaulE Thanks this. -
The problem is that Cat has not attempted to improve their product. On the contrary they have tried to patch up the old technology and have been on a downward spiral in the marketplace in the process. They are not leaving the market because of anything but a loss of market share due to a consistantly poor product over the last decade.
That annoying thing called competition is exactly what has driven them out of the truck market. for example an ISX Cummins will run circles around a Cat of equal rating and will get consistently better fuel milage while doing it.
I didn't realize that having an informed opinion made someone a "tool" as you say. I do have a right to an opinion and It is apparently an opinion that you can't fully comprehend and therefore must reject out of hand.
Suit yourself! I disagree with you but I do not dismiss your opinion as "stupid"...
In order to have a reasonable discourse and possibly learn something in the process we should know and understand what we are talking about while keeping our mind open to things that we might not already know about the subject.
I used to swear by Caterpillar engines and would have nothing else but the reality of their refusal to upgrade a good but terribly dated design forced me to open my mind to other engines and the results have been good so far. -
You seriously think that Cat didn't try and improve their product? They had a large share of the market considering they were quite a bit more expensive than the next option. The last truck I ordered cost $5k more with the C15 than the ISX. Now do you honestly think if the ISX was as far superior as you say people would have still even considered the Cat? I mean brand loyalty will only go so far.
I love your internet ball park facts. "ISX Cummins will run circles around a Cat of equal rating and will get consistently better fuel milage while doing it." Really? As if there are no threads concerning ISX performance and fuel mileage issues on this forum. Please! I'm not saying Cat engines are without fault but to say that the ISX is superior and problem free is laughable at best. The warranty claims that plague Cummins on that red boat anchor prove that.
Also what you seem to overlook the on-highway market was only a very small percentage of Caterpillar's engine business. How many billions should a company spend on R&D for a product that is such a small portion of your total business just plague you later with claims. Cummins doesn't have a choice, their business is engines, period. Any lost income is dwarfed by their other ventures like generators, gas turbines ect.
I personally don't care if you like Cat engines or not. I could be on here saying all Cummins engines are junk since I had an N14 that took a crap with under 400k and cost 15k to fix. But I understand that just one engine out of millions isn't an accurate representation of the total. So for you to say "The ACERT motors are cetifiable junk" when I've got several with ZERO issues is ignorant. Maybe you should follow your own advice and "open your mind"PaulE Thanks this. -
maybe the cat is living but not the engine.
maxxforce15 will be a cat 15 with bosch common rail and m.a.n. egr and double turbocharging system and no ACERT -
