I haul heavy - I don't travel out west much. Does the scale in Des Moines on I-80W ever close? Also, what about the scale on 80 at the 46 yard stick going West. Does it close? Trying to plan my route and really don't wanna cross scales

I use to run regular past that scale (DesMoines) but not for about a year. Not always open, quite a bit in daylight hours. Also they regularly did business out back.
Some other drivers with with more insight will be along shortly.matthewb Thanks this. -
The one below Davenport the other night was closed, just before getting onto 74.
About the time you think they will be closed, is when they are open; be safe. -
It's at the 44 MM not the 46. I just got a level 1 inspection and a new sticker for the glass. -
What time are you allowed to start in the mornings? If you get past the scale before 7 am you'll probably be fine.Think there's a hwy running along 80 isn't there? But you're heavy haul so that probably won't be good either.

they have scales and cameras up all over the place,, on almost every highway.. If your heavy haul,, the scales hit a trigger and your picture is sent to someone in the DOT,,, then they look at your load, and weights; with in 300lbs... and if they see your oversized,,, they call ahead and have someone at the scales by the time you get there....
it is getting more and more like this everywhere... those scales have been closed more then open,, I haven't had to go threw them in a long time. -
fireman5523 Thanks this.

I cross I-80 at least once a week. The Westbound around Des Moines is almost alays closed after 10pm. The one at the 44mm is a bit more sneaky. 90% of the time it's closed after dark, but I have also been busted there at 2am. Don't expect anyone to tell ya about it on the cb either.

seems like no one is truthfull anymore.
i tried that coops app. and NEVER got the right signal.
i rolled through des moines at 6 a.m. one morning. got pulled over by highway patrol for one tail light not working on the trailer. it was working when i hit the road and was working when i hit the repair shop an hour later.
poor connection in the light. -
I have found them to be open more during daylight hours but: Would not guarantee it..
