I've heard a lot of trash talk about internationals having all kinds of problems well before hitting 500,000 miles. I have also seen lots of internationals in the truck papers with age and mileage similar to other trucks going for about half the price. It kind of seems like the market confirms what people are saying on the street.

From people who know internationals well and have driven them or worked on them, what's the real deal? Are they really not very sturdy trucks? Why do they have such a low resale value?

I had the misfortune of being in a 2013 pro star for about three weeks. I liked the sleeper, but that’s the only good thing I will say about it.

When I went through orientation with my current company, the safety guy told me, “we had a pro star once just to try it out, and we will never have another one. Couldn’t even use it as an anchor because #### floats.”

I love the older internationals. Great trucks, Newest one I have is a 2007. The older ones are workhorses.

I wouldn't touch a MaxxFarce with a large-caliber bullet from very long distance. Waste of a perfectly good round.

But as for the rest of the truck, I have an affinity for them.

Its like comparing Hyundai's to Fords huh? one has a great reputation the other doesn't even though one may actually have a very reliable Hyundai, the general public just form an option and thats the end of that, the same with Inter's, Peterbuilts, and Kenworths seem to rule the roost at the moment and of course this will effect supply and demand just like the futures market so an Inter is going to be a lot cheaper to buy as the demand is less then the more popular makes, if you score a good reliable truck then your on a win win situation and who really cares what truck you drive as long as your happy with the one you bought.

Not only that, but another school of thought says it doesn't matter the base on the hood, it's all about drivetrain. Thus, my statement about MaxxFarce. I think the same about Volvo motors, and Paccar. DD, Cummins, or Cat are the only powerplants I would willingly buy. The rest is all personal preference, and best described as the color of lipstick on your pig.

Don't know. Our experiences with them have been good. We had an '05 9900ix with an ISX 475. Was a decent truck, sold it to our neighbor we had as much faith in it. We still have an '02 9900ix with a 550 Cat and it does us right too.
