So I know enough to know why the values of Prostars with the Maxfarce motor are so bad, but are the value of Prostars with a Cummins ISX15 bad just because of the stank of the Maxforce or are Prostars generally inferior trucks, even equipped with a Cummins? Considering a 2014 Prostar for OO flatbedding. They are probably close to 20 k cheaper than anything else.

I bet the cheaper price is a result of the bad reputation of the trucks, which is because of the Maxforce engine and all it's problems. I'm no expert but a Prostar with a Cummins seems like a decent truck to me.......except for those teeny little windows.

ISX is also problematic to this day.
You need a fleet of only them, and mechanics who know them.
Plus pro stars or the new LT (same thing) are very tight work compartments.

All emissions motors seem to be problematic to this day.... Volvo and Mack seem to have a better rep for emissions problems, but you can only get them fixed at a much smaller number of dealerships. What do you recommend? Paccar?

I wouldn't spend the coin on one...
I'm in a condo and am amazed by the lack of usable storage when compared to my old Cascadia (midroof nonetheless) and T660...
I will say... the Cummins/Prostar combo itself isn't too bad. I just dislike much of what the International has to offer... but it rides nice for a company truck.
I'd highly recommend an APU with the Cummins ISX.InMotionGA and Oldironfan Thank this. -
I'd love to buy a new truck with a full warranty but don't see that happening. Realistically, my choices budget wise are between a 350-500k mile emissions truck 2012-2016, or an non egr pre 2003 truck. Decent trucks from this era are nearly all long nose (which is OK, don't think the mpg differences matters a great deal for flatbed), but long nose trucks from pre 2003 are usually in the 40k range at least anyway and are kind of hard to find... Probably will end up with a 2003 or older Freightliner Classic. They seem to be a bit cheaper than the Petes and KWs.

EGR era Cummins are even worse than the newer ones tho aren't they?
