As a guy who finally lost a transmission this year, but didn't have time to pull it apart and see what actually went out, just had a quick reman swapped in (not really that quick!) those pictures were pretty neat to look at.

Nice pics. Transmissions still intimidate me. The whole timing thing is what always worries me. One tooth off on re-assembly and your starting over. Thus I always pull the tranny's and send them off for a rebuild.

Its pretty easy to tell if the timing's out. One tooth out on one countershaft and you will have a #### of a time getting the input shaft installed (don't ask lol). As long as you make sure your marks are aligned and you can spin it over a few dozen times with no tight spots, should be good to go.

Very cool post. Kind of like a rubics cube.

As said above if it's out of time you will know it. I don't think any competent person would finish up the front if it not timed correctly. Almost impossible to get the counter shaft bearing in. The aux is different.. I had 1 that went together like chocolate and peanut butter. Backed it out down the drive went into the high side. But wouldn't go back into low range!

Back off with the aux, man that sucked.

Very interesting. Reinforces my reason for not ever opening one of these boxes up for me to work on.

Learned something about pushing the shaft against the gear and watch for bucking.. I found out my 4th gear and 9th gear both buck the stick really easy why the others don't buck at all and are quite. Good to know to be stocking money aside for it.
