    Have two codes.

289-5 #5 intake valve acuator current low

289-7 #5 intake valve acuator not responding

I am assuming that since I have both codes we are looking at probable wiring harness or plug short?? According to the hours the current low happened first...and it happened last.

It doesn't happen all the time either. Just causes a derate.

Have not been able to make it all the way through the test. It stopped right before the test was through the second time. Everything was off. I do not know why it stopped. I assume it was the fan. But A/C was off...switch on ECM control.

    Engine CAT 05 MXS in a T600

    Thanks guys!

Hi Scrapper, My 04 mxs acert had a similar problem last year. I can't remember what code it threw me but the check engine light came on and derated my power. It was something to do with a fault on the IVA 1&2. When I got home I pulled the valve cover and noticed the plug connection going into the sensor on the #1 IVA was brittle and broken up a bit. I am assuming it was shorting out cause the plastic between the two prongs wasn't protected anymore. Cat does make new plug ends to crimp onto your original harness. I had to replace a few more but I am thinking if it continues I might just install a new harness down the road.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking it will be. Haven't gotten to get in the valve cover yet. Maybe today...prob tomorrow. I'm hoping that all it is. I have learned alot about the IVAs looking around. There is alot of information on them. Just didn't know if because it had low voltage if anyone knew that it would probably be a wiring problem...instead of an IVA or solenoid. Thanks!

More that likely the low voltage is the plug going into the IVA. The OEM plug doesn't have a boot on it to protect the connector from getting oil into it. The new updated connector look more like a GM style weather pack connector, vary easy to change yourself. I had a low voltage code on mine and I bought 3 updated connectors and changed out the bad one in a truck stop parking lot. Got the other 2 for just in case another one codes out then I wont have to look for a CAT shop to get one.

Anytime you have voltage code with a sensor or in this case a solenoid your usually dealing with a broken or shorted wire in the harness somewhere.

Thanks guys. CAT guy dropped off two new updated plugs. Truck just left for Kansas so will be sat before I can check it out. Very interminant so I'm pretty positive it will be in the wiring. Hopefully just a plug.
