Hey gang - I have a Western Star that is strictly used for shows. It is not registered commercially, nor is it used commercially. I've learned the hard way that finding insurance for a semi truck in this category is very difficult. Currently we have a policy with Progressive, but I am no longer happy with their service and wish to change.
We are based in Pennsylvania. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that might be willing to provide coverage for a non-commercial tractor (no trailer) that's used strictly for shows? Thank you! Joe
Insuring a non-commercial show truck?

Register it as a RV? And should be pretty easy
-
In PA you csnnot register it as an rv. Well not without turning it into an rv.
Unfortunately PA doesn't bave a non commercial registration for trucks over I belive 17,000 pounds. Everything over thst is either an rv or a cmv.
There was a poster here last year from PA asking the same thing, but unfortunately I cannot find his handle.
He does have a facebook page though, so you might contact him there for info on what he did. It's the page name of OptimusIsHere
(Won't let me link on my phone. I'll try a link when I get home.) -

Post a picture of your truck for us!

Appreciate the suggestion. We've had Progressive but they are no longer going to renew our policy because (and I quote) "there is too much risk with the number of people that will see it and get close to it".
I've tried every possible company I can think of. It's been an uphill battle to say the least. This being a Friday there isn't much else I can except resume the search on Monday. If anyone has a suggestion of a company that might be willing to explore custom policy options, I welcome your input. THANK YOU! -
I'm in NC....i just put wieghted tags on my 359 and my insurance was 100 bucks a month. That was just tractor only...750k policy.

Slick, his situation is that he is running it in a non-commercial (meaning not hauling anything) mode which he can do it as an RV but he won't do the conversion which is really easy. All I had to do is put in a toilet and a sink, not even running water for mine. I never used the toilet, nor the sink and they have been removed and the nice cabinets were put back in.
I do not buy that PA won't allow it to be an RV stuff, they will.
I have used two other alternatives that I got from Escapees.slickWillie1980 Thanks this. -
• Cooking appliance
• Refrigerator
• Self-contained toilet
• Heating/Air conditioning
• Portable water supply
• Faucet and sink
• Separate 110/125 or LP gas supply
It has air/heating built in, so only 3 more. Cooking appliance, would be easy, just a portable propane camp stove. Leaving 2. Refrigerator is typically an easy one, as there is a spot for it. Leaves 1 item.
Can't see the generator without messing up the show truck aspect. Could, I guess, make the generator box removable....
Toilet and faucet and sink I can't see without messing up the show truck.
Also, dunno what they mean by portable water supply. If that means a 5 gallon bucket for water, that's easy. If it's a full plumbed system, not so much.NavigatorWife and izifaddag Thank this. -
The thing I've been told by insurance companies (and please...if someone out there works for an insurance company and can shed light, I'm all ears) is that it wouldn't matter. They go by the VIN #, not what it's registered as. So as soon as I give them a VIN, it comes up as a semi truck with a high GVWR. Not an RV. Hence that's my other dilemma. Insurance companies would always see it as a semi truck and thus not be willing to insure it non-commercially.
