I'll be starting up with local side-dump work this year and will hopefully expand into some flatbed work hauling machinery. I'm getting everything together, making a list, and checking it twice. One thing I'm trying very hard not to overlook is the insurance.
My question is, who does everyone use for insurance? I've read in several places that Progressive is the only one that will insure an O/O and all the stuff that comes with it. I kind of find that a little hard to believe. Yet a Google search doesn't seem to yield very many options either, so then again...
I have all my personal things covered by State Farm and already got a "no" from them in regards to this. My agent referred me to another insurance agency that seems to just broker from national companies (Progressive being one of them). In my mind, why pay a middle man? What do you guys think?

I had no choice but to go with Progressive when I started. If it ends up as your only choice then after two years you will have more options.
I just switched to GEICO Marine and they were $27k cheaper than Progressive..give GEICO a call.
I think a lot has to do with what state you're in.Dino soar and The_SnowMan710 Thank this. -

Geico Marine covers your truck? I would've never guess that one in a hundred years. Good to know, though! -
Endless threads on this topic. New entrants are pretty much stuck with Progressive for the first two years. Better have a couple different agents get you some quotes before getting too far ahead of yourself. Be ready for some sticker shock.

Just switched our personal vehicle to Geico from Progressive today. Ended up being $800 cheaper for same coverage.
Got a quote from them on homeowners insurance also but they’re about $2k more than Progressive.The_SnowMan710 Thanks this. -

If you plan to just run local in NE you may have more options, but for interstate authority there aren’t many that will touch new carriers.
