Northland is the cheapest i found. Couldnt say if they have a agent by you or not or even if they write in WI but probly do. There is a bunch of companys in MN i believe that have decent rates like truck writers. I have been dealing with finding insurance for new entrant since the beginning of the year. One other thing i learned. Commercial liability insurance doesnt matter if you staying under 26 or not. you will have to have the same insurance as everyone else. just tell em what coverage you need and for a new entrant.

Ive called/emailed at least 25 companies and only 2 have gave me a decent rate, 6 above 15k and the rest were a waste of time. Ill try ooida and see what they say.
I know progressive is usually high but they are on a new set schedule where they wont insure new ventures. Rumor is that they are making a new estimating software that they then will offer it but it wont be released til march.

I use Progressive currently and they are not cheap. I will be switching before my next renewal.

You are correct in that they are no longer writing new hot shot trucking policies. I said in a previous post that the cost of insurance alone for new hot shot start ups will make it not practical to try and make it in this business.

Unless you have some direct customers already lined up you will not make it taking loads off the load boards. Do your research and think twice before jumping into this unpredictable business.

Ive found a couple companies that are much better pricing but they still arent cheap. 40 different companies and hardly got a lead, it definitely is rough.

I have Progressive as well and yeah it is costly however I have shopped around for other insurance companies, and currently Progressive is the only one that is insuring my additional permanant transport plates that I use for some clients to move trailers and some drive-away for some of the local guys that go to auctions around here. I'm at about $8,500 a year for full liability 1 Mil $100 K Cargo and full comp/collision on truck with the two transporter plates, it's a killer but that's the cost of doing business I suppose

I dont think thats a bad price at all. I have talked to guys that are paying 2 times more or even more and they are 2 or more years in.

    Ryan S2016 Thanks this.

I don't know how new guys can make it with premiums that are $10,000 or more per year.
