I need to put a male PL 259 on the end of my coax. I purchased 2 different ends from the truck stop, one is a crimp-on and I'm not sure about the other one but it might need to be soldered on.

How do I install these? I do not have a coax crimping tool should I go the crimp route, can a regular wire crimping tool be used?

    Thanks

You sure the coax isn't a mini 8 where one end is soldered and other end you screw on?

It's the clear cable they sell at all the truck stops. I've attached a photo that shows the cable but not the end, looped so it won't drag.

Wow, that photo had me baffled for a while, it looked like you ran over some loose coax and got it wrapped around the hub of your roadster. Or you were giving new meaning to radial tire LOL. I get it now, its run off the back of the spare tire mount...

I prefer solder connection, my thought being if a single run of coax can be ruined in a door jam in a single door slam, crimping the coax must also alter the impedance ohms. <--- Someone better informed please comment?

Lol should have stated it's not on my big truck.

Went the solder route and it seems to be working out alright.

    The finished installation.

    Thanks for the help.

Edit: I just realized I snapped those photos before I put on the 259.

Just out of curiosity was it hard to reach acceptable SWR with you set up?

Not weathertight, but doesn't damage dielectric.

I even got a set of extra dies for building custom spark plug wires.
