Wasnt so sure where to post this I apologize if its in the wrong forum

Hello. I have a 12 Freightliner Cascadia with a ISX motor and a 10 speed. Ive always had this Innacurate fuel reading and was wondering why and how to get it fixed. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the fuel sending unit. Even with that its shows inaccurate.

Another example is when I was below a quarter tank of fuel around an eighth of a tank to be exact I filled up both tanks at 170 gallons. I have two 120 gallon tanks which im guessing I had rougly 60 gallons left. I drove 1075 miles with light weight loads between GA to OH threw NC, VA, SC and WV. I got fuel in Jeffersonville OH at a TA, and put 80 gallons in I showed 7/8ths of a tank when I started the motor Then I went 60 miles to pickup and when I got there I was just below a half of a tank.

Currently Im at Quarter of a tank on US 30 west of Ft. Wayne IN near Warsaw. I drove 275 miles weighing 18000 in a box. I will also say when Im starting off from being stopped my fuel guage goes down then goes back up only when I accelerate.

Im really trying to see what the problem is I dont feel like Im loosing power either. I have a 550hp with 1850 torque. Its kinda annoying because I know I have more fuel than it shows but my gut nervous. I appreciate the help I can get.

In 30+ years of CMV driving, the most (and often only) accurate fuel gauge I have ever used...

If you want to have a good accurate system to show you what you have in the tank, they make them but they cost more than the tank.

Just fill it up, and stop for fuel again before or at 1000 miles. You'll be good.

Start tracking your MPG per tank when you top off with a calculator. Then when you know what your truck averages you will have a better idea of how far you can run on a tank under normal conditions. Unlike cars most fuel gauges on semis I have operated have been inaccurate. My rig has 2-100 gallon tanks and when the low fuel light comes on I have 40 gallons left. This is always accurate on my truck. I reset the trip readout every time I fill up and my dash mpg is always .2 tenths better than what I actually get, so I can track current mpg accurately based on weather, loads and terrain changes which effect mpg. If you are traveling east to west you can expect to see a decrease in mpg based on how strong the headwind is.

This is the best answer... We have been going through this for months if not a year I don't know how many times we've had the sending unit fixed. At this point it's a waste of my time to do so and I just keep track of the number of miles. I use with my trip odometer and make sure I fill sometime between 800 and 900 miles.

I track my mpg with an app. I know for a fact my 30 day average 7.4-7.6 on a consistent basis. So, I figure on 7 mpg. I have yet to run out of fuel.
