I am helping my son with a farm vehicle. No CPL. Need to know injector setting and procedure for a Cummins Big Cam 400. I have a manual for and have rebuilt a Cummins 444 with STC injectors. My manual does not give me injector information on the 400 BIg Cam. I know that this is not an STC set up and I know it is not a small cam. I would appreciate any ideas on how to set the injectors. Thanks!

Need to look at all possibilities: A truck like that could have anything in it. Look at the tag on the fuel pump, that should also have the CPL # on it. Does not gaurantee it belongs to your injectors. Your truck should have top stop injectors that are adjusted to 5 inch Lbs. They do not have a coil spring on top of the injector. Those normally adjust to .011 intake and .027 exhaust. If you do not have a 5 in Lb torque wrench or a clicker do this. Move the valve rocker arms away from the injector rocker. Tighten the injector screw intell you cannot spin the the push tube and lock it down. You should have no free play in the rocker and or push tube. The injector rocker should slide freely side to side on the shaft. That will work. Won't give you the proceedure for fear of mixing it up between PTD, top stop, & STC, this is all off the top of my head.
When you start into the adjust proceedure check to be sure things are fairly close to what they should be. You could be 180 out or someone could have put the accessory drive in out of time. I have come across some that made me question if I was 180 out but then became amazed how far off the adjustments were and it ran so well. Farm On!

If you look on the left rear of engine block (driver side) there should be a little flat spot right below the head that will have the Engine serial number stamped into it. You should be able to take that number and call a cummins dealer and they tell what CPL number it is.

Looked at some tags today, they were all .011 & .023
After sleeping on it adjustment goes like this . Just have to figure out where to start. That is how to adjust the rocker arms which is what I thank you ment. Timing requires a special tool and some injectors removed, or at least one.[IMG]

I used to have the cpl book but I gave all my old manuals to the truck museum. I suggest you check the timing. Although Cummins spec is 2 degrees variation, spend a little more time and get it down to one degree variation. You will be amazed how much smoother it will run. I have used cpl 369, timing 65 degrees with good results. Not the highest horse power but it will pull strong at 1500 rpm.
