I am going to inframe my 3406E CAT and was looking at the Mahle/Clevite kits. Does anyone have any experience with these? I know they make some of the hard parts for CAT. They also have a better parts warranty.

Check the Cat site: www.ohe.cat.com
They have a bunch of new kits for the 3406E at savings of 10 to 40% less than buying seperate parts. Plus , you can add ESC if you want. -
Mahle/Clevite kits are good, I used a PAI kit for my Cummins as their price was better and quality is not an issue (they make Mack kits)

Just because they make some parts for Cat doesn't mean they are the same part. Cat has many suppliers that make parts for them to their specs. Really look and compare the warranties. If that part fails, will Mahle/Clevite pay labor. Cat will if the engine is repaired in a Cat auth shop. That is even if you do the work yourself.

I did check the warranty and yes Mahle/Clevite will pay for the labor to replace any part that fails. They have a 2 year warranty and CAT only has a 1 year. I ordered the Kit a couple of days ago, when I install them I will let you know what they look like.
Rafferty Thanks this. -
I would be interested. Sorry, I could find the warranty statement anywhere on the website. I came from the aftermarket supply side and I had a very tough time getting any supplier to pay for labor or any contingent damage. Not saying that Mahle/Clevite won't. If they will, that is a good warranty.

I had this same question when inframing my ser 60. most shops told me aftermarket would work as they used them on their own trucks. the shop that did my inframe recommended oem. I went with oem. good thing I did, had small problem with coolant getting in oil. if I had insisted on aftermarket kit & had this problem after shop mgr recommended oem, he may of told me it's my problem for not getting what he recommended. so if I knew how to do an inframe & was doing it myself, I would use aftermarket (any familiar brand) but if having work done, I would use what they recommend.

I say always go oem, theres a truck sitting at the back 40 at our shop that was inframed with a aftermarket kit, 3 broken liner flanges, and the company doesnt want to pay
-
go OEM, its worth it. At the shop I work at if we do an aftermarket in-frame we are very cautios about warranty because the quality of the parts is so hit or miss.
