DSW
Worked out of the one in Tucson for 4 years----1 yr OTR/3 yrs Daycab. It's a Swift O/O with about 170 trucks last I heard. Have HDS Truck Driving School (wont bring in other any other employers near graduation since want all new CDL's to work at DSW!!).
Negatives: Drvrs were treated a dime/doz when I worked there, but have fired old GM and may be 'better(?)" Always had a big turnover rate---have a DSW Driver Mgr who interfaces with Swift, but cant turned down loads (forced dispatch!), DSW takes 1/3 of any driver unld/asst work paid by Swift, drvr pays up to $1000 for any incident/accident (or stuck in mud, etc.). Try to keep drvr's out for at least 3 weeks at a time, with only 3 days offtime.
Pluses: Being that is a Swift O/O, get more loads than Swift company drivers. Govd at +2 mph over Swift trucks, or 67 mph???scrapy918 Thanks this. -
thank you for the information. I asked my school about them today and this is the information I got. Pay start .26/mile, 6 months .30/mile, 1 year .32/mile, with full benefits after 60days and tuition reimbursement

i went to hds for my training. i was planning on working with dsw after i passsed, but things kinda fell through with them. i guess im kinda glad they did... i have talked with quite a few people who have drove for them, and not one of them had anything good to say about their experience. its all hear-say coming from me, so take it for what its worth... but from what i hear it doesnt seem they are liked very much.

My experience at HDS truck driving school is a good one. The pace of the class is swift, as it challenges students to constantly read, discuss and learn.I found that each day I learned more, and it was due in large measure to having multiple instructors that have all of the practical experience and applications to explain the topics Finally, the class I have taken is extremely rewarding because I know I am furthering my education, gaining useful skills and industry knowledge that will act as assets to myself, my colleagues and my clients.
Im looking forward to working for HDS or DSW when i graduate. I hope that i am not going to be dissapointed. -
Digby S/W and DSW are 2 different operations. DSW is a small fleet with trucks leased to Swift that haul Swift freight. Nothing to do with Digby.

DSW is a good starter company. They have good benefits and an ok starter pay. There are better companies, but there are also a lot worse. Depends on the person and what you are looking for. Husband use to be a trainer and trucking is not for everyone and every company is not for everyone either. -
My humble apologies. I stand corrected.

I went to school at HDS (2002) and was hired on immediately with DSW. I loved it and they treated me great actually. I went through 2 trainers due to conflicting personalities and each time they re-routed me right back to the home terminal and sent me out with a new one asap. They put me in my own truck after just 3 weeks with the trainers (total) and I went on to have a great time with the company. I went from making 200 a week at Burger King one minute to making 900 a week a couple months later, so I always associate DSW with "changing my life", lol, even though it was really all me. Loved DSW and never had anything bad to say about them. I miss trucking
I don't truck anymore due to many reasons but that's my experience.http://www.cdl-testing.com
