I am currently deployed and i just recently received a first warning email stating that if i did not send my dot physical in i would be downgraded. But i will be home very soon and i am wondering if my license is downgraded is there a possibility to reinstate once i am back or would i have to go through the process again? i did check out the Indiana bmv website but it doesn't cover this situation .

Just as long it isn't expired for over a year you just have to get a physical then go to DMV and get your A back. It's easy. Nothing to worry about.

Plus there's a 30-day grace period after due date. If you get your physical in within that 30-days, your license does not get downgraded.

After that your license does get downgraded, goes back up to CDL as long as you get physical in within one year, as Skate-Board said.

For more info call Indiana CDL Contact Center (888) 692-6841.

How about getting the forms and have a doctor with your medical units do the physical and send it in? Or go to your JAG office and get help notifying the DMV that you are on deployment?

    Come home safe buddy,,

Yes, the doc faxes the med in. Fax # (317) 974-1613 (Indiana CDL Contact Center). Takes 3-4 days to process. Or drop at any BMV if you're back in Indiana.

Remember, the Docs have to be on the list now. I highly doubt any military doc will qualify. JMO

No, military Doc won't qualify. Says he will be back soon.

    No harm, no foul.

If he were going to be gone longer, say 1-1/2 years, probably would need to arrange a quick trip home and deal with it ASAP. That would be a question worth bringing up to the Indiana CDL Contact Center. Phone # above.

Indiana CDL holder must maintain on file a valid DOT
    examination/medical examiner's certificate (physical).
When the physical expires, the medical status will
change from certified to not-certified. After 30 days
from expiration of the physical with no current
physical on file, the CDL will be disqualified and
downgraded to the driver's base line license. If the
CDL is revoked, invalid, suspended, disqualified or
expired longer than 1 year, then the CDL applicant is
    required to retest (start over).

Indiana goes through a few steps before your CDL would be downgraded and require you start over to re-obtain your CDL. First step is 30 days after medical certification expires (temporary CDL downgrade) and then the second step after one year (CDL downgrade). The link above has some additional information pertaining to Indiana that may be helpful to you. You can also change your self certification from NON-EXCEPTED Interstate/Intrastate to EXCEPTED Interstate/Intrastate and not need to submit a medical certification at all. Once you return to driving, complete a new self certification. If it changes to NON-EXCEPTED Interstate/Intrastate, then you would need to also submit a new medical certification. No need to get too worried. Just stay within the guidelines set by your home state.
