This occurred in my personal vehicle, not a cmv.
So I scored myself an improper lane change ticket for not using my signal from an unmarked Mustang here in san Antonio about a week ago.
Fine is $202.
Is this worth fighting in court? A lawyer sent me some info unsolicited and stated that San Antonio municipal doesn't make deals with cdl holders and it would cost $750 to try and get it dismissed through trial.
I mean all moving citations are a big deal but is this serious enough I need to fight it to protect my cdl? Easily explained to any future employers.
So pay the fine or try and fight for triple the money? What would y'all do?

Yes fight it,
that is a serious violation for a truck driver.KriegHund, justa_driver, Swedish Chef and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd hire a lawyer

What he said. It's right up there with following too close and careless driving. $750 seems ABSURD though, I once got an improper lane usage ticket in Barrington Illinois and the lady that answered the phone at the court house recommended an awesome lawyer. Was less than $200, I'd definitely shop around. -
I got the exact same ticket two months ago in my pickup. Sent it to my lawyer. Don't care about the fine, don't want it on my record. We'll see how good he is.

As favorites of the Texas LEO for stopping vehicles, the two most common citations issued are.
(improper) Unsafe lane change and failure to maintain lane.
these are considered serious offenses.
these stops are usually followed by requests to submit to an alchohol test and searches of the vehicle.
( Number one probable cause on the DUI and Drug search/seizure list )
It may be to your advantage to hire a lawer and defend yourself. my guess is that you can find quality legal representation for less than $750. -
Yes! Absolutely fight it! When I was looking for a new outfit to drive for last year, I explained to the recruiters at each company of a similar offense I have on my record (truck in restricted lane). Each of them told me that's a minor offense and would not prevent me from being hired. However, each of them also said an improper lane change would disqualify me for employment. Take it from me, that is NOT something you want on your record.
KriegHund, TequilaSunrise and Canned Spam Thank this. -
Its really gonna get bad when they get that Mapp21 in place. If you get disqualified, you will have to go back to truckdriving school and reapply for your cdl once you have completed that. The final ruling is scheduled for Sept of this year.Last edited: May 9, 2016

I got one because a four wheeler wouldn't let me merge, ended up merging in the "triangle" (where two freeways split off). Piglet who gave me the ticket was a pos but I digress. 1.5 on my record, never was an issue although that was the only ticket I received in my adult life
