I'm prescribed Adderall for ADHD and Klonopin for social anxiety I'm just curious before I go out and try to get a class A CDL and pursue a career in the trucking industry if I can even drive a truck being prescribed this medication or if a company would even hire me due to insurance, ect. I have gotten my dot physical before being prescribed these drugs all I had to do was get my prescribing doctor to send in a letter or a note saying that the medications do not make me tired or give any adverse side effects that would affect driving. from what I understand it is a very touchy sensitive subject and I just can't find anybody that can give me a real answer any help is appreciated
I'm prescribed Adderall and klonopin can I still drive? Will employers hire me?

Some companies have had problems after hiring drivers on this medication. The driver is a thousand miles away and becomes dysfunctional. Now the company has to fire him/her and pay for someone to go get the truck, where ever that may be.
Some companies may hire you, but probably won't be much.
Better to get off the medication at least give it a try.KillingTime and Con-team Thank this. -
I take 1mg of klonopin 3 times a day and did when I drove. But it's just for maintenance as I have a very high tolerance for it. I was maxed out at 8mg a day still no side effects at all. Its just more dangerous to stop then my maintenance level so don't stop taking it just to drive it can be very serious problems and if you have any side affects then don't drive.

No side effects . it would actually be more dangerous for me to drive unmedicated then if I was so I don't get the hypocrisy here

What you mean? Mixed replies because it's a banned med federally for drivers.

It's a Federal Ban for those medicines as Trooper to Trucker said.
Social Anxiety? Brother, you are about fixing to be socialized beyond anything you ever have experienced in trucking. You deal with the public, both good bad and really parasitic. You will be consuming barrels of your medicine once I finished describing what people will try to do to you with words out there around the USA in bad areas.
It's best not to have medicine at all when driving. Your nerves and decision making behind the wheel must be reached and then executed with the very best cleanest fastest response you can possibly do lives depend on it. Anything that throws a wet blanket in your mind, body etc and slows you down is going to get you or someone killed. Ive missed many people by this much and if I was on anything at all in them days like I am on now, I would not have missed them by this much.QuietStorm, KillingTime and misterG Thank this. -

Aderall is an "amphetamine mixed salt"
49 CFR 391.41(b)(12)(i)(ii)(A)(B)
"A person is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle if that person —
Does not use a controlled substance identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 Schedule I, an amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit-forming drug.
Exception. A driver may use such a substance or drug, if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who:
Is familiar with the driver’s medical history and assigned duties; and
Has advised the driver that the prescribed substance or drug will not adversely affect the driver’s ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle."
Regulations Versus Medical Guidelines (Guidance)
That covers one of them Klonoxipin is Xanax if memory serves if not Xanax most definately a Benzo type family.
Schedules 1,2,3 and 4 drugs are those restricted for a reason. Narcotics like pain killers are schedule two. If you are given medicines in a trauma or ER situation that are schedule 1 you definitely cannot drive, and even if you legally could, you would not be able to do it.
Whatever is bothering you in this life that needs to take those two meds, it needs to stop. So you can stop taking those meds. Then once clean and not dependant or addicted, you can look into driving.
