Ok, Ok - I know this is a dumb question and reveals my irresponsibility, but it is what it is:

2 weeks ago my wife and I decided to drive through the Illinois tollway on our way from PA to MN, how bad could it be, we thought? Well, we ran out of cash pretty quick and ended up getting about 6 slips that had to be paid online....all for less than $2.00. I put them in the glove compartment and intended to pay them that weekend...but it slipped my mind......

Fast forward two weeks - I open the glove compartment and there they are, reminding me that anything not paid within 7 days is a "violation" - great.

So I called the tollway up and they said there was nothing they could do, I just have to wait for the violation notice to roll in with its $20 fee for each missed toll. - BUT - she said, if I know anyone with an IPass, I might be able to ask them and somehow pay the tolls that way.....I wasn't quite sure about that part. The problem is, we live in PA, so not many people with IPasses.

Anyway, all that to say - does anyone out there have an IPass? And if so, would you be *willing* to help me out with this? I would not ask for any personal info, because I don't want you to feel this is a scam....but if it's at all possible I would be really thankful for the help.....just reply or send me a message if you think you could help......and I know, it's a long shot, but it's all I can do right now. Thanks

    -Chris

    EZPass works there as well.

But using another IPass or EZPass unit is fraudulent. It is tracked to the vehicle.

It is very simple to open up a atlas & route yourself around toll roads when you ain't got the money.

I do it every time I see a toll road in my future.

Better off trying to pay them online before the violation notice gets sent out.

Don't feel bad. When I was green to the IL tollways and our company started dodging them, I had a so called good trucking friend tell me he ran them all the time. So I ran a bunch of $3 tolls here and there. You're right, they attach $20 to each one and a zoomed in picture of your license plate. Cost me $300 for a few dollars. The bad part is you don't get a notice right away. They waited 7 months and let me think I was getting away with it. Jing! Jing! We have a sucker! You'll never see me run a toll again. :)

I know a friend who had someone tell them the same thing.

His unlucky friend did this for over 8 months and the final bill was over 4500.00.

Think of it as an education expense.

Just for the record, I only did it when I was pressed for time and didn't need the time stamp. I've paid a many out of pocket and dodged a many. That's why mine wasn't $4500. I just wish they sent me a notice after the first one. :)

Yes it was an educational expense. I paid for that pothole repair by exit 56.

Oh wow, I didn't know it would be a felony to share an IPASS, the lady made it sound like it was a possible option.

I like the "education expense" idea - this will be a learned lesson about avoiding tolls and not putting time sensitive things in the glove compartment.....thanks for your input guys - and condocruiser, good point, maybe I'll help to fill in a pot hole that would have otherwise damaged a car, resulting in financial stress for the couple and eventual divorce.....who knows what the ripple effect might be....;)
