I found cheap fuel at a small truck stop in Rochelle Illinois. It's the oversized gas station with truck pumps across from the Petro off I39 and 88. Diesel here was almost 17 cents per gallon cheaper than the Petro and Pilot across the street. No one else was coming here except me. On the receipt at the bottom I see a break down of where my tax dollars went to, both federal and state say 0. I have never seen this on a fuel receipt. I drive a class A semi so IFTA needs to be paid..
I thought all truck diesel had ifta included? I paid 2.38/gal here, so after IL collects the IFTA (.36cpg) does it end up being 2.74? For reference, the Petro was charging about 2.55/gallon, but the IFTA is for sure included in their price.
So how is IFTA included in the price in Illinois ... because if I have a diesel car and I buy fuel at a regular gas station I am not expected to pay IFTA which is for big trucks right? I only pay the state sales taxes which is included in the price?
Did I get ripped off, thinking I was getting a smokin' deal? Or is IFTA always included no matter what, and the big truck stops post a ripoff price for owner ops, only giving steep discounts to mega fleets?
IFTA paid at pump here or no? cheap fuel illinois

It's not IFTA that you are paying, it's State & Federal Highway tax on top of fuel price.
You pay IFTA quarterly depending on what states you travel in. -
Thanks for the reply. I thought IFTA was included in the fuel price in Illinois? most states include IFTA?
-
Not that I am aware of.

It is included in the fuel price. That is a relatively small discount compared to what some other members get through nastc fuel program with ta and petro locations. There are very few places you can buy clear untaxed diesel for on road use. I know the duty free is one of them. I think some Indian reservations are also on that list.
How it works. The .36 is paid in the posted price or the price you actually pay if you have some form of discount card. At the end of the quarter you settle up. -
To sell diesel I thought the state tax was included in the price, the state tax is subtracted from the retail price so that is how you determine what the fuel actually cost. IL is a high tax state so buying fuel in IL is usually a good choice. Some truck stops have pumps where the state road tax is not paid as the fuel is dyed RED for use in Thermo King reefers, and Carriers too, Town Pump in Montana and Hixton Travel Plaza in Hixton WI have the tax free pump available.

All taxes must be included in the posted price unless it's dyed or the rare instance of like I said before an Indian Reservation or at the duty free.

So the tax we pay as truckers is included in all diesel, even for cars at regular gas stations? It's just a road tax, and not a different commercial tax? At the end of the year though, we can get refunded for road tax we paid at the pump if we didn't drive many miles here but bought all the fuel here..?
Still not sure why it says 0 tax was paid on my receipt -
I just thought there was tax in all fuel no matter who buys it, cars, trucks, etc, but I thought diesel pumps for semi trucks had additional tax included. There are diesel pumps by my house that were 2.15/gal and the truck stop down the street was 2.45.

I think Arizona is the only state that taxes diesel higher for trucks than for cars...
