Let's begin at the hotel......
We arrived at the Super 8 and got a nonsmoking room. When we got to the room, the outdoor handle wasn't working properly. Upon entering the room, it was warm, musty and smelly. There were cigarette burn marks on the top of the white microwave, countertops and in the bathroom. The smoke detector was in the nightstand drawer. The bedsheets were old and itchy (we slept with our clothes on). The AC unit only worked on full blast. By morning, our puppy, Bailey who is 9 lbs, was curled up in my husband's armpit and shivering!
Now, we get over to the operations office for MVT....
We sit down with the HR ladies....
They wanted us to sign all of our paperwork before anything got filled in, including pay rate. We were not allowed to opt out of per diem! They force their employees to take the per diem.
Now, we go over to the terminal...
Took my drug test and went to do my pretrip. The tester rushed me through but I did notice two bad tires on the trailer. When I brought it to his attention, he said, no problem, we can change trailers.....Three trailers later......
Now we go around the building to pick up hubby. The tester did not realize he was my husband and began #####ing to him about the female driver who took to long finding a trailer she was satisfied with.
Paul did his pretrip and found that two of the back trailer lights were not sitting properly. The rings were broke. Paul managed to fix one but couldn't fix the other. Paul got grease on his hands from it so he asked to go wash his hands to he didn't get it in the truck. He was gone MAYBE 2 mins.
We had to take the truck and trailer through the service line to get the other light fixed. As we were getting ready to roll out, I had to pee. The tester said no problem so I pulled around and went inside. In the amount of time it took me to walk through the cafeteria into the bathroom, go pee, wash my hands, walk back out and say two sentences to Paul, a guy in a safety vest came and got us and said the safety director wanted to see us. (Keep in mind, we are not even employees yet)
The safety director asked what the problem was. We told her about the safety issues with the trailers and her response was, and I quote, "it's not like I am asking you to take a load"! She grilled us about 15 mins until we finally told her that MVT was not a good fit for us.
The equipment is not made for teams and we do not like the incab cameras. We were told that they are never turned on in the cab but yet as we walked out of the safety director's office, there was someone watching an incab camera!
If you look for a change of employer, please for the love of God, stay away from MVT (Mesilla Valley

Good post!
I would have walked away as well (and if I knew about the camera's ahead of time, I'd never have been there to begin with). If ANYONE in the office talks to me in a down-graded manner (as you have described the Safety Director) on day 1....there is no day 2. We are all in this together...and I don't allow anyone (including company owner's, Presidents, CEO's, etc...) to treat me like a lesser species---without out ME there's no need for YOU (and vise-versa).
As for the hotel/motel...as long as there's no 'bed bugs', I can put up with less-than perfect conditions for the night or two I'm gonna be there. It is what it is. NONE of these companies are gonna put us up in a Four Seasons. I think people need to find a little more tolerance in this aspect of the industry.
I'm not a "dog guy", but you guys had a dog in the room that I might get next...do I like the thought of that? No. Can I live with it? Of course.kuzima93, Another Canadian driver, TheRealPorkChopExpress and 8 others Thank this. -

Now back on topic...
An MVT driver will likely be the cause of Walmart in Valdosta Georgia putting up those yellow bars. He was driving around through the parking lot and the Costco next door like a madman with his tandems all the way to the back, running curbs and stop signs over, right and left. I guess he was angry because there was no place left to park.
I loaded up my groceries and got the hell out of there before anyone recognized me as a truck driver.Last edited: Apr 17, 2017

My dog does not have a last name and it certainly is not mine. He is a pet, companion but certainly not family.
I will care for him but when age catches up with him it will be an easy choice for me. A pet is not one of my kids and as such I am not going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on medical care.
People on this country are losing touch with reality. Grandparents had a dog for 16 years. They finally had to put him down. I had to load him in the car for the vet and that dog was the same age as me.
You know how you feel about dogs? I feel the same way about cats. Best place for a cat is a Chinese buffet. I do like a barn cat but you better have that sucker fixed.Mike2633, Another Canadian driver, Milr72 and 4 others Thank this. -

Mvt is also one of those places that routes your fuel stops for you , 70 gallons here, 40 gallons there, etc .
Horrible horrible company, but if you get highest mpg you get a Harley. I remember they had guy there that averaged over 11.5 gallons per mile to win that bike
I actually paid to stay in a different motel room by myself after my "roommate" came in . I think they put the truckers in the crappy rooms out back
Lasted 2 weeks there and I had one of the best runs that company had to offer(on paper lol)Another Canadian driver and AM14 Thank this.
