I currently live in Connecticut and I 98% of my family live in Canada. I was born in US. I have an uncle who owns a trucking company and he wants me to work for him. Can I transfer my CDL A for a Class 1? I am in the process of getting my dual citizenship since my parents are both canadian and in the US on their green card.

No you US CDL is NOT valid or transferable in Canada. You will have to re-do everything, as in Canada it is illegal to hold more than one driver's license. Here our licenses are issued by class. So tho your CDL is equivilant to a Class 1 or A license it is not recognized as it is considered a second license. Much like a chauffer's permit.

From what I understand you will have to retake both your written & road tests over. Also our TDG (Your Haz Mat) is not the same either. This endorsement is done at the company you work for, and must be re-done everytime you change companies.

If you are lucky, companies MAY take your previous experience into account, tho, not likely, because of the licensing issues. This is due to insurance reasons.

For your Info It is the same in USA. From Canadian to US Commercial. You have to re-do all written and driving test. Like most US Company do not recognise your driving experience in Canada.

Yes Canadian companies DO recognize your experience and are actively recruiting immigrant drivers .

Do some proper research with officials in the province you will be living and working in .

It used to be that air brake tickets were required as well as a drivers licence. This was because a ticket was required to run anything with air brakes ie: a front end loader being operated by someone with only a car drivers licence. It required 24 hours of an air brake class before you could get a ticket. This was two years ago.

I've never heard of an air brake ticket in anything and I've operated heavy equipment in several states . I never operated a front end loader with air brakes .

Think he is refering to way back in the day when loaders had air brakes.
I currently have a z endorcement but no a or d. While in school taking heavy equipment mechanics we had an air brake section so if you payed the extra money for the test you got it. Recently went and did the refresher test and passed so it's still valid.

I was talking about Canadian requirements. By front end loaders I was talking about ones similar to Cat 900. Also grader operators on many off road shows I was on were required to have them.

B.C. and AB require you to have a ticket to operate a Hiab type for loading or unloading.

O.K. , thanks for clarifying . Your Oregon address through me off . I never required any certification on equipment I operated but I know some states require hoisting licenses for loaders and cranes .

Loaders of the Cat 900 and similar series no longer have airbrakes? What do thet use? Not trying to be smart ###, just trying to expand my knowledge. Are you still in school? Working as a heavy duty mechanic?
