just remember when you get the flu from sleeping in cold truck in cold weather. you can always go to the emergency room and hand the bill back to the state for getting you sick over the anti idling law.

Was on the thru way about 10 years ago.It was winter about 35 degrees outside
some guy beat on my door at 2 in the morning, told me I had to shut off the truck.
dont know who the guy was ,he wasn't in a uniform.I just went 30 miles down
the road to a truck stop, went back to sleep.

My guess it's on mild nights when you don't really need to be idling.

first off, the only place i have ever seen anti idle laws enforces is in small towns and in California. I drove a truck with no bunk heater or apu for a year and a half and idled when ever it was real cold and never had any trouble. That being said, if your cooler kills your batts you need new batts, a new alternator, new wiring or all of the above. Is your cooler 12 volt or does it plugg into an inverter? If 12 volt, the truck 'Should" cut the power when you get to around 12 volts thus keeping the truck ready to start. You may need to get the cutoff switch replaced. If inverter, some inverters only cut off at 11 volts which may or may not be enough to start the truck.

In some cases, altinator failure can look like bad batts. If they arnt getting charged, they may appear dead all the time, but the batts are actually fine. This needs to be diagnosed by you or a shop asap. it wont get better on it's own. Also, do you have agm deep cycle batts or traditional starter batts? AGM will handle "hotel loads" like running your cooller much better then starter batts and wont be damaged as easily. The disadvantage is a few less cold cranking amps, but, 4 agm start my truck just fine every time. I have a fridge, laptop, tv etc. If i use them to much the inveter and truck will cut them off at some point. After cutt off i can still cranks the truck for a few min if i have to. (one time i lost fuel prime when it was -30 out. I had reached the cutoff voltage over night and it still cranked for about 3 min in 15 second burst. got it fixed though because its hard on the starter to do that. Point is, AGm are better if running collers and such)

The flu is a virus. You don't get it from sleeping in cold conditions.

PA has those signs too , and they don't do anything about it.
you could stop at any service plaza and just listen to all the fuel being burned. Lol

Idling laws usually have a temperature range on them.
