Morehouse truck Line is installing IdleFree's on all 30 of our new Cascadia's. We've been using the IdleFrees for over a year now, and even the local Carrier dealer became an IdleFree dealer after seeing ours in action. Webasto's have worked well forever. Yes, IdleFree's will kill the batteries after 10 hours, but if you're sitting for more than your 10 hour break, you have other problems. Also, it wont let the Truck batteries go below a certain charge level so the truck will always be able to start back up, and then charge the APU batteries as you drive. With the reefer link, you can run for ten hours, then hook up the Reefer link cord and start the reefer up and run off that. EVEN IN COMMUNIST CALIFORNIA, where its illegal to start your truck to charge your APU batteries, you can "idle" your reefer as long as you want, loaded or empty. If you see a Morehouse driver, ask them how they like the IdleFree units!

Thanks, I'll have a second look- I've been waiting to hear more feedback. What was the cost per truck parts & labor for the reefer link? I don't have an APU on my trucks, but I do have webasto.
-
I dont think IdleFree would want me listing our prices, but the ReeferLink is just a cord that you attach after your're parked and take off before you move again. It should be less than $150 per cord. Every truck that has an IdleFree here has a ReeferLink cord.

There is also a modification to the reefer unit itself. I believe the reefer link system alone is approx. $3500, but that includes all the equipment in the cab also.
I would like to know how the reefer link system alone works, and does it cool the truck down good enough in the summer heat. -
Hey my truck wont start cuz my apu is killin the truck battery. Its sooo hot. So I have booster cables on the reefer battery.and connected to.the truck. So my apu is on and in 5+ hours ill need to start up the truck but intill then I would like to sleep, butttt it might rain alittle so should if be fine it the reefer motor doors are open.or should I just charge the truck and just suck up with the heat so.I can get moving tomorro?

If you're asking whether or not you can leave the doors on the reefer open, yes, should be fine unless there is a safety switch to prevent people from getting their paws jumbled up in the belts during operation. If your reefer runs while the doors are open it should be fine. I routinely use degreaser and a garden water hose to wash my reefer engines off. Just don't forget to close it up before you roll since you might take a door off when you turn a sharp corner or something.

I have a dynasys APU that is California compliant. That was my first question is will the Reefer link kill the small alternators on the reefer. My APu is piped through the truck exhaust so it is quiet. Wondering why these companies don't just set their trucks up with opti idle that will turn the truck on when batteries are low charge them up and cut off. I know a company that has these idle free apus and no reefer link and have the trucks where they will not idle long enugh to charge batteries, and if that think is running on a 100 degree day god help you! You'll fry LOL also what do you do for 110 volt power. Diesel powered apu's are the way to go!.

I wonder how hard it'd be to crank out a prototype of just the cord for connecting to the reefer to keep the truck charged. Anyone know of an aftermarket product that does this already?

Total cost was about $80 it was a few years agoKB3MMX and VisionLogistics Thank this. -
