My trucker started back trucking last week for a company hauling frac sand to West Texas. No addresses on the directions...lucky to get lat. and Long.coordinates. He said some of the guys have something called a tracker with a blue line that shows you how to get out of the area...especially useful if you leave at nite. Anybody know about this? We need to upgrade to iphones and wondered if there is an iphone app for the rand mcnally maps

Driving to drill locations using a GPS is not recommended.

It can get him close. But no way it can get him in, especially if the road has recently been pushed out.

Google earth would be your best bet.

I worked oilfield for several years. Getting to a rig location was never an issue. Most gave excellent directions.

And I've been to some really remote locations.

Don't you need an address for that?

Get the phone number of someone on the rig.
Preferably someone that works with logistics.
Have a pen paper and map of the area ready so you can follow what they are saying with out iterating them with zero knowledge.

    sharonkbowen Thanks this.

The directions are usually really good. just make sure you understand where they start! usually its a main highway the they will use 10ths of a mile type distances and east or west north or south. use your maps and a compass if you need it and you will be fine. usually you can see them a ways a way especially at night. there lit up like a christmas tree

you don't need an iphone to have trails. i have it on my android. and my blacknberry before it. and windows mobile before that.

i use it becuase my boy and i ride motor dirt bikes in the mountains. and sometimes we have a tendency to not find our way back to the pickup.
