Are there any companies that can sponsor/pay for me to attend a independent school to obtain my CDL in Fontana, CA? I cannot afford to pay out of pocket for schooling. The reason why I want to go to a independent school for training is so that I can learn to get my CDL in a manual truck and to avoid having to wait on 4+ other students if I were to go to CR England in Fontana for example. I am a slow/hands on learner and want to spend as much time behind the wheel and not watching and waiting on others like a 5 year old waiting for his turn at the swings in kindergarten.

I have looked into Prime Inc (Utah), but according to one of their recruiters, they do not train on manual transmission trucks. At this point I rather stick to a local school and find a local job after completing training. I wouldn’t mind having to fulfill contract agreements to drive for the company as long as they can pay for my training.

Other than the Air Brake section, I have memorized the PTI. I am also confident that I will pass my written test, as I have been doing well on my practice tests on the CDL Prep app by Jeffrey Diaz.

One of the schools that I have in mind is called Truck Driver Academy located in Fontana, CA. Please note that I am looking for a company that can pay for me to attend a local school, not necessarily reimburse me because I do not have money to pay for the school myself as I have been unemployed for a few years now.

    Thank you.

Companies have tuition reimbursement, but you would have to front the school the money first, then show whichever company you sign on with your documentation. For your situation, you would have to go to a company sponsored training, like either of the companies you mentioned. If either company will take you, I'd advise you to take the opportunity. Once you get your license, you go to a company and ride with a trainer for a month or longer. If you feel you're not ready, stay with that trainer as long as possible.

Student loans. You don’t have to pay up front. The school will help you apply for & get student loans to go thru school on.
Also, if you’re unemployed, check with the unemployment office the state might pick up the tab.

I think Yellow trains on manual transmissions. Also has local work after graduation.
First year expect to make about $65G. YRC/Yellow is still opening new academies so there is probably one near you. You will receive hourly pay while in school plus meals and lodging.

CRST trains in Riverside, CA and has a terminal in Fontana.

Don't know if CRST trains on manuals or not; call and ask.

I would suggest that you look into Swift. They have their Academy right in Fontana at their terminal. Don't listen to the anti Swift crap. They will train you with no money up front. 3 weeks later you will be in a trainers truck for 4-6 weeks......and getting PAID. @Moosetek13 has been with Swift for over 10 years. I bet he will chime in soon. I went through Swift in Phoenix a bit over 5 years ago. Had a great experience and got very good training. Good luck!
