Do I need to get a DOT physical before I can drive with my supervisor? Also if I run with him do I need to keep log books? He has a Class A CDL.

Yes yes yes ...your supv. should be able to direct you. If you're going to practice driving with your shiny new permit you have to be legal at all times. Enjoy and be safe.:biggrin_255:

According to my instructor ( he only drove for 38 years...), to strictly be legal, you need to keep a log book.
Since we drive around Ft Worth hauling a 48" trailer that advertises "Professional CDL Training" in 3' high letters chances of us getting stopped are pretty remote unless one of us hits something....but if you're working for someone, to be safe you should carry a medical certificate, your permit and an up to date logbook.
We started our logbooks day one of class, and turn them in everyday... ok, the next morning.... but carry them in the truck.
If you're just sitting in the passenger seat, you're not driving, you don't need anything but written permission to be there.
IF you drive at all, you need to be legal=all documents.

What's amazing is how far straight up a person can bounce a truck when they forget to clutch.... :biggrin_2551:

    Y'all take care,
    Mary

KrashdrGon is right but also be sure your instructor is in the passenger seat at all times while you are driving under a permit. If you get stopped under permit and instructor isn't present in the front seat, it could mean for big trouble.

I think I know the answer to this but would I need to list him as a co-driver on my logbook or does need to have his own? My boss has never had to deal with this before since he was "grandfathered" in back in the 80's when the CDL came out. This may be a question for a DPS trooper but seems like there is no black and white answer when it comes to these things.
