I have a CDL learners permit, but was never given a hard copy. Uh oh....

I never knew permits to operate came in a hard copy. It always came in paper form stating all the endorsement you have. The motorcycle is the same way. You get a paper copy of your permit and you have one year to complete the test or the permit would be void and you would have to retest again. In CA, they give you 3 chances to pass the skills and drive test or you would have to reapply for the license again and re take the written

 

In VA you do get the hard copy for a learners permit. They're going to charge you 20$ to print it. My advice take a camscan of your paper permit and go have it printed and laminated. How are you suppose to keep a piece of paper legible for a year?

 

I had a paper for that too but I never carried it because I only drove trucks for school and I only had it for 3 months or so till I got licenced. It's so short term usually they figure it's not really worth it to make a hard card to send in the mail

 

It is just state dependent. If you state gives you a hard copy, like GA did when I got mine, it usually comes in the mail unless they print them there on site. If the clerk said that you will not get one as they do not give them out for permits, than you are good and the company should understand that as I am sure you are not the first student from that state.

 

Whatever you do dont trash your original licenses, canot get on plane with paper even with a picture on it.

 

Most states don't print out hard permits, mine does which was weird when I got it because I've had a permit in MA as well and it's paper till the end. In reality you shouldn't have it that long so no big deal.

What state are you in. When did they issue it and you said it expires Jan of 2017, that might be a typo, but usually you don’t get a hard picture permit in most states, once you pass your CDL tests then they will mail out the hard copy.
