Woopsie. I bet someone has done that once and again.

Never done the fuel tank cap but accidently left my side door open for a hundred or so miles. Luckily nothing fell out and the wind pinned my side door to the cab.

I lost a cap early on in my o/o career. Aluminum foil and baling wire twisted around the spout worked until I got to a Freightliner dealer.

Bin there, done it twice so far; first time the cap disappeared! Was worried about my job; still got it! & by the way, one time, I bent a windshield wiper ...won't say how that happened, but, there is a reason why I wear a Fool's cap! ...humbly Hamish.

Another reason to keep your CB on. Had a fellow pass me a few months back, and his passenger side fuel cap was hanging by the chain. Grabbed a handful of channel 19 and luckily right before we hit a rest area. Feller thanked me and pulled off. I highly doubt it would hurt anything but your pride.

I think almost every driver has done that one. I am guilty. Along with leaving a side compartment door unlatched and few others I don't even want to remember. Point is to learn from your mistakes even if takes a couple of times.:biggrin_25518:Sometimes it seems like working the truck is harder than driving it. Have a system and don't get preoccupied. I catch myself drifting off into other subjects, only to realize that I'm not focused on the task at hand. That's when it goes South on me. :biggrin_25526: Nothing pisses me off more than making a mistake. You call yourself a professional! Your an IDIOT! Trucker rule #9-It you can make a recovery without an incident it never happened.

    1. I left the passenger cap off for 10 miles from a fuel stop to my next pick up. Drop the trailer, go to hook the outbound and see the cap off the tank when I walk around to that side of the truck to check lights and tires.

    2. Left a drop, in a hurry.....forgot to close my roll up door. Crossed the scale at Hudson on the MN side and they never batted an eyelash. A 4wheeler flagged my down and let me know. Got it closed right quick, after that.

    3. I'm at this fuel stop. Get a call from my brother, while I'm fueling the only tank on this particular truck (which is on the off side) I have the main pump on to activate the slave, with the main side nozel wedged between the body and the top of the pump. I end the call, hang up the slave side. Walk inside to pay and the cashier reminds me that I didn't hang up the main pump.

What this all boils down to, is that we are all human, and we all make mistakes.

Once I forgot to roll up the landing gear... :biggrin_25526: Drove don't know how many miles on hwy till a four wheeler driving side by side with me, rolled down his window, pointed to it and kept making gestures... :biggrin_2554: I immediately found a place to park and saw the foot of the landing gear almost all the way down to the ground... :biggrin_2554: Oooops!!! Thankfully there was no damage at all... But from that time on, I always check and double check after a drop & hook... :yes2557:

I've done that too, once had a tank strap break, and a 4 wheeler pointed it out to me, tank was inches off the ground. But the all time winner, I knew a guy that drove a cabover( remember those?) and forgot to latch the cab, hit the brakes and the cab came up about 1.5 feet and came back down!:biggrin_2554:

I've done this to my DEF cap and fuel cap. It happens. The hook on caps work so much better!!!
