I worked at the NFI terminal in Orlando for a while. They do not hire recent grads out of that terminal because they have no trainers there. The 5 day out and 2 back isn't bad at all, its the Entenmanns account, you'll be making deliveries to in PA, Indy, Chicago. PODS is the ptr account there, its flatbed but easy work, then you have local but its like pulling teeth to get a local job there. You can try applying there after you have some experience or call recruiting and see what they offer, who knows, maybe things have changed.

Other carriers to consider in the area: (ignore the "1 or 2 year requirement" send the apps in anyways, I had 6 months exp and got hired on with a company that required 2 years)
    Sunstate
Abilene (last time I spoke to them they weren't hiring out of Orlando at the time, but great equipment and training)
    Roehl
LTL companies such as Southeastern Freight, Conway Freight, they might give you a shot but you will be working the docks part time, requires hazmat and doubles and triples, even tanker in some instances (I dk why)
    Cardinal Logistics
    Southern Wine and Spirits
Heartland Express shares a yard with Southern Refrigerated Transport and Covenant which is right by NFI so you can check all three out and see what they offer.
Or do like I did, after I graduated I went to the industrial part of town and started knocking on doors asking for apps, I got hired at a small beer distributor delivering to the Trader Joes around Florida. M-F home daily
I have never gone OTR and I live in Orlando, so its possible!!

Oh, if you live south by Poinciana/Polk county area you have a huge amount of companies that hire from that area. PM me if you would like

Thanks for all that great info! I just moved here and don't know the area all too well yet. And don't actually live in Orlando.. I live in Tavares in Lake County.. about 45 minutes away. I will gladly pm you once I hit 7 posts on here. I'm brand new to this site and it says I can only pm staff until I have made 7 posts.

Update on sunstate carriers... I contacted them and they told me you have to have a minimum of 8 months OTR experience to work for them, so if they did hire recent grads, they must have changed that at some point.
