Howdy All,
When I returned home to Washington from Arizona last November I drove Hwy 93 for the first time heading north, I'll be driving this same road southbound in about a week. As most of it is at higher elevations what are the usual weather and road conditions I should be prepared for, I have not driven in this part of the country during the cold months before. I don't remember any steep passes or climbs along that road, any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Dave

I just came through yesterday. Nothing really to worry about at the moment. Weather wise. You’re at a higher elevation than you realize. So check your forecast to make sure.
They were saying rain for most of Saturday in the Ely area. That’s where I woke up. No rain. -
The first stop is this:
NWS - Watch, Warning, Advisory Display
It reveals Idaho is a sort of winter battleground as of this posting tonight.

HD between Jackpot and Wells can be a bear and Murry between Ely and the Lund turnoff can be bad — it is all high desert and weather can impact it all. I would just keep an eye on the Nevada road report and weather — if things are good, it is easy running. Make sure you take the Hwy 6 cutoff instead of 93 through Pioche and Caliente — saves some time.

Yup most of that road is over 4,000 feet much of it is over 6,000 so snow and ice are to be expected. I'll be checking the forecast for sure thanks for your reply.

I just now down loaded and added the Nevada DOT website to my phone, Nevada is the only State in the region that I didn't have loaded up for reference as I have never driven through it during the winter months before. I'll be doing freeways from Washington until I turn south from Twin Falls Idaho so climbing Cabbage and going through the Blue Mountains should be my only real concerns until I head south on 93. Thanks for the links.

We plan to spend the night at Cactus Jacks in Jackpot, head to Las Vegas the next morning. I took the cut off when I ran this road northbound, I'll be sure to do it again. Thanks for your reply and information.
