This is not the first time--in fact almost every time the lease is coming up--these rumors start--and the last 2 times it happened--jersey offered them the world--and that time is when the city--went ahead and payed to build the New fish market--to get it out of Downtown manhatten(Fulton street)and then turned ops over to the market board
Not going to say it can't/won't happen--but it is very doubtful--not like the city has nay use for the land--or anyone wants to move into area--and the city is heavily invested in the infrastructure--even if it is a dump--not to mention the lost tax revenue(and income taxes)--so B4 y'all get your hopes up --LOL
course--would Newark or Elizabeth really be a step up????

I haven't been there in ten years, but the few times i have been there and witnessed how the meat sometimes sits out in the sun for hours before they get around to putting it away, with gulls poking their beaks through the cartons makes me a vegetarian whenever I get anywhere near NYC.

ROFLMAO! Yeah in Manhattan at small stores and such is where you'll see meat on pallets on the street or on a dock, but, NOT at the produce market at Hunts Point as well it's the PRODUCE market not the Meat market! Very little meat is shipped to the produce market. Almost every dock in the meat market has the meat in the coolers as it comes off the truck so you won't see the gulls sticking their heads into anything but the trash.
NOW, when the meat leaves the market and goes to the stores is where the story can change!

But if that scares you so how about in northern NJ? I've seen the same thing there Chicago and in LA! It's not just a NYC thing!

The story is about the PRODUCE Market so your meat story has no bearing!

Not really! Just as bad if not worse to get into and out of those two cess pools!

More commonly known as the Hunts Point co-op market--and just to be official--what everyone commonly calls Hunts Point--or just "The Point" to us old timers is actually
"The New York City terminal Market@Hunts Point
Since Hunts Point is actually just a section of the Bronx--
So there you have it--more fun facts to know and to tell--but if you do want to have fun--tell one of the newbie crybaby types the: " I ain't going to NYC types"--you are going to the New York City terminal Market--I guarantee they will tell you--well that ain't to bad--but now that Hunts Point--let me tell you--stay away from THAT place--
Yeah I know I have way too much fun F****N with people LMAO

I know what I saw. Some of the receivers were more sanitary than others, but a lot of them were questionable. I was at the meat market btw.

Don't you get it started--so called Point Stories are still some of my all time favorites--and if I am in a really forgiving mood(rarely)I might not say anything--but being the cranky ol b*****d I am--I truly enjoy playing dumb--then asking them some very obvious question--like how to get there or what part of the city it's in? And of course depending on how they have been acting thru their rhetoric is how hard I enjoy busting them--
BTW--First time I was at the Point was at the Point--the Giants and Dodgers were still in NYC--LMAO
And as for the point about the co-op market--it is true--unfortunately--some of the smaller outfits--do leave product on their dock--much too long in the summer--these are usually those that unload as they need(due to space)--and are selling product the whole time and for various other reasons--but yes it does happen--but nothing like little West 12th--where finished product has a tendency to sit in the street 1/2 the day!
